Updates: Tell me about the BMW 7 series.

Looking at a 2017 and 2016 740i with 22,000-28,000 miles respectively. Major depreciation in that range. Test drove the 2017 today and rides like a dream and goes plenty fast with the turbo in line 6. Somewhat complicated controls but probably just need some time behind the wheel.
Any of you baws have one or know someone who has one and can vouch for the reliability? I realize maintenance will be expensive but I just don’t want major issues like electrical or mechanical problems. My research so far seems to indicate some people have problems with the Apple Blue tooth connectivity and some satellite radio issues. Have owned MB, Porsche, Lexus in the past and all were great except the MB which had some strut problems on warranty so no big deal.

Update: Ended up buying a 2017 LS 460L with 8,400 miles, Black ext with cashmere interior. It is very quiet and smooth but to be honest, peretty vanilla compared to the BMW 740Li. I read a lot of the BMW forums as some here suggested and saw some of the quirkiness that would drive me crazy like transmission, coolant and fluid leak issues.
I want something reliable and was willing to trade off the wow factor dor something that I hope is more reliable yet doesn’t blow my skirt up.
Who knows, maybe in a few years I will have to try the BMW?

My wife has one. No problems so far and it’s 3 years old. As long as it’s still under warranty, go for it. Beautiful car.

I had a 330i about 10 years ago. It was nothing fancy, but even my dad said it was probably the best car he had rid in. I couldn't imagine a newer 5 series or higher. One day I'll get a M5 or M6.
Be careful with maintenance/service, it isn't cheap. Don't know how they do it now, but they used to drop the key (literally) into this box on the computer and would give a diagnostic of the car. I took it in for a rear taillight out and it was north of $300 just for the light. Mind you I probably paid $8500 for that car at the time (again, it was an 01 330i)

528, 80’s, very dependable, only issue was with a circuit board controller for the ac, had a friend with a 7 series that I mentioned that to, was because the board was designed for European summers, he changed it out for me for a about a $4 part from Radio Shack and a twelve pack that we had grilling steaks after he changed it out
ETA: replaced a water pump too, after a ton of miles, same friend replaced it, we cooked prime rib that night

Unless you have a comprehensive warranty or you are leasing it, stay away from a used BMW. Why do you think they have such rapid depreciation curves?
It's the unexpected problems that you encounter with them.
A few I have seen in my friend group:
1. A 4 year old convertible 3 series had the back window separate and he had to replace the entire top.
2. A 5 year old 7 series had a coolant hose rupture and did all kinds of damage.
3. A 4 year old Mini Cooper S had the clutch fail and it was $3000 to repair. Not covered under warranty because it's considered normal wear and tear.
I love BMW's amd have owned several. But I know my way around car repairs and have most shop tools at my disposal. But every time I own one, I still feel nervous.
Love / Hate.

Could be the case now but not in the past, BMW doesn’t have the market cornered on depreciation, any luxury item is that way, you can also buy used vehicles under warranty or buy a policy for them

Just buy the extended care plan that BMW offers. I have AudiCare for my Audi. BMW offers a similar plan. Worry free driving and none of the maintenance costs that people love to claim come with these cars.
