I tell them no problem - for a hundred bucks cash.

Find out it she’s worth that.

It depends. Is she ill? Infirm?

I’ve given up seats when I saw a real good reason as a matter of compassion.

Once I was flying back first class with my wife, who had been injured seriously while in another city. We booked as soon as she was released from the hospital but could not get seats together.

I asked the guy next to me to trade with her. She had a better seat, exactly the same as his but three rows up. He refused just because he didn’t want to move his fat arse. She sobbed the whole flight.

I spoke to the flight attendant about it. There was nothing she could do. But she did “accidentally” spill red wine on this slovenly sideways a-hole.

Why would a flight attendant care how much your seat cost? Unless you sneak into first class?

God forbid two adults have to sit next to strangers for 80 minutes.
Frick him. You have no obligation.
I have only ever asked people to switch if it’s an upgrade for them. Middle seat to aisle.

I fly most every weekend for my job. The answer is “No.” The husband should offer his seat to the individual stuck by his wife - and if accepted the husband should move further to the back of the bus.

she should be OK for that short period

Good for you. I don't believe a word of this but this is how these stories should end when they actually do happen.

Anyone asking to trade seats should only reasonably expect takers if they are offering a better seat for a worse seat (eg they both had aisle seats and offered to trade you one of their aisle seats for your middle).

Anyone who gets pissy that a stranger won’t give up their better seat because they weren’t willing to spend the money to get a better one is absurd and should be ostracized by polite society.
