This happened two years ago.

The city of Evansville is seeking a favorable judgment in a lawsuit brought by a local woman alleging the Evansville Police Department violated her constitutional rights when its SWAT team tossed flash grenades into her home and forced their way inside to serve a search warrant more than two years ago.
quote:
The officers were looking for evidence of who had made anonymous Internet posts to the Topix.com message board threatening the Evansville Police Department and Chief Billy Bolin.
quote:
Police came up empty-handed in the search for evidence about who had made the threatening posts but only after damaging Louise Milan’s house, handcuffing her and her adopted daughter and seizing their computers, according to the lawsuit.
Law enforcement officers were able only to tell as a result of the search that, while there was an open wireless Internet connection in the home, the threatening posts were not made from inside the house, according to the city’s motion.

sounds to me like their router had no security and someone else used their service to make the threat...

Impossible.
We were told earlier today that SWAT only comes when they know illegal activities are being perpetrated at the residence.

That's exactly what happened. A local gang member used his phone to connect to their router.
This seemed pretty extreme for a search warrant over anonymous threats on the internet, but that's just me.

I'm just glad they investigated the threat before calling in SWAT to handle it.

This for some an anonymous comments made on an unsecured wifi network. Did these guys ever think about driving up to the house and seeing if they could access the network?

I think the swat team handled things pretty good.
I do think whoever signs off on these warrants should be held accountable.

That SWAT team in the pic needs more physical training.

Do you really think swat does any type of investigation?

Why? Because they are following orders?
They were tasked with finding a wireless router and computer. Just because they can break the door down and handcuff the residents doesn't mean they have to do such.

Was assigned there for work August 2012-October 2012. That place is pretty nasty.
My take--- Police acted like thugs based on faulty info.

Really? You read the warrant and know the full nature of threats posted?
My take is the investigation leading up to issuance of the warrant was lacking...resulting in the swat raid.
