Not really. That home is much nicer than anything else around. I damn sure wouldn't live there.
that's why you buy the cheapest house on the block, not the nicest.
my neighborhood is one of the nicest in in-town Atlanta, and just a week ago cops chased some carjacking thugs all the way into my hood and onto Emory's campus from 6 miles away in an OTP hood off Memorial. they, of course, lost them by Druid Hills High School at around 5:30 am, and the perps fled on foot, armed. a little over a year ago, I checked the crime map for my neighborhood, going back an entire year. it was very clean. now something happens every day.
i think teens are being told in some form or fashion that the law isn't going to do anything for them. that blacks are being targeted. etc. I don't think they're being told to go out and commit crimes, but the hormone-addled teen brain interprets that message in various and scary ways, especially when combined with the general urban gang environment that persists.

My point is that people from all over the nation went to Baltimore, rioted, burned things, and shot people over an incident. People from all over the nation traveled to Ferguson and thousands of people stayed for weeks to protest and flood the media with their thoughts.
That hasnt happenend for an incident of black on black crime or a rally for black on black crime.
Exactly.
Pretending that black on black crime even comes CLOSE to animating the black community like pretty much ANY instance of white on black crime is to have one's head in the sand so deep that even the Ostriches say, "damn, that dude's good".
It's not even fricking close. If it were, social media would be a non-stop deluge on the subject because it happens EVERY frickING DAY.
Nope. Deafening silence.
But damn, let some white dude kill a black person and people from thousands of miles away will suddenly think #blacklivesmatter and tweet about it 100 times

Exactly, the media has portrayed a boogeyman in our youth's mind. "All white people are out to kill you, hold you down from success". It's hard as a black youth myself to educate some of the other black teens because they simply weren't raised with the same concepts of independent learning. Teens rely on social media for their information and unfortunately, thats where all the ignorance comes from.

Your seriously rolling your fricking eyes? Nice contribution to the thread.
Your "contributions" have been nothing but a bunch of thinly veiled gun politics rhetoric. I'm rolling my eyes at the fact that in this tragedy you see nothing but opportunity to stamp your feet and sarcastically mock the positions of those of us who take the protection of our home and family seriously. Exhibit A:
quote:
Why didn't the home owner use his gun?
Surely the family dog was going ape shite indicating something was wrong?
Maybe he had a gun and dogs and maybe not, but that's beside the point. Your post is nothing but an "I told you so".
The comment about a "hand cannon" is meant to evoke an emotional response and focus attention on the gun rather than the piece of shite holding it.
Your motivations are crystal clear and they have nothing to do with any real sympathy for this family.
That's why I'm rolling my eyes.

I remember the good old days before social media when this kind of stuff never happened.

That Bolton area is mixed. There are tons and tons of 300-450k homes over there.
The problem is that it is surrounded by pretty shitty areas. It's isolated somewhat from Marietta Rd. because there aren't a lot of cut throughs, which is partially good. But it also cuts the area off from the Wesley/Moores Mill/Peachtree Battle area across Marietta.
This crime is particularly egregious for Bolton, which is a relatively safe, if "frontier" west side neighborhood. The city could help speed up improvement of that area if Reed would let them build the Publix complex at Bolton and Marietta, but he's at war with Felicia Moore so the area is getting fricked over.

You realize that time has nothing to do with it, right? That we have are a soft and squishy and squeamish people. That we get all weak in the knees at brutal retribution while thugs slaughter fathers with babes in their arms and women and children.
Violent animals respond only to violence. To strength. They will not be rehabilitated. They will not be social programmed into prosperity and contribution.
That violent, uneducated, death obsessed culture is a cancer which will spread unless it is excised and cut out with fire and sword.
This pretty much nails it on the head... I wonder if we'll ever get to this point and say enough is enough.

I think I read somewhere, could have been here, that the area was described as a "transition zone" between the bad and good areas. Would you say that is accurate?
I google mapped it, and it's surrounded by industrial buildings.
Go to street view and look around.

It's funny how different people interpret post on here.
You couldn't be more wrong if you tried.

Meh, it came off as an anti-gun dick head taking an opportunity to shout "I told you so". Never let a tragedy to go waste and all that. I suppose I could have misinterpreted what you wrote.

Yeah the house does stick out quite a bit. Industrial buildings aside, the area itself is booming though.

This is very much a transition area. Some really nice homes being built. I actually looked around this area several years ago for a house, but decided it hadn't "transitioned enough" for me yet. Definitely some quality homes around here, but the areas surrounding it are riddled with crime. I had a friend renting in this area for a while. She said she just left her vehicle unlocked every night because she was tired of them busting out the windows. Every couple of weeks, she would find her car door wide open in the morning. She finally moved.

LOL. My ITP area is safer than my parents OTP area and nicer to boot. I'm not a suburb hater, but one is trending nicer while the other is trending worse, care to guess which is which?
