How does this differ from your OP?
I’m not the one making the claim that there’s all sorts of downstream consequences being discussed.

I think the size of them should be reduced. Decent people are stuck between airline executives with their fees and inconsiderate cheapskates who insist on jamming their entire vacation into the overhead bins.
That is how Spirit rolls. You are allowed a personal item at no cost that is about the size of a laptop. Otherwise you have to check bags for about 70 dollars each way, or pay for a larger carryon.

A tweak rather than a wholesale reinvention. Enforce the rules and only the ones trying to abuse the system have to adapt.

I would have no problem if you had to complete a boarding and deplaning video instructional and exam before being allowed on an airplane.

I haven’t checked a bag in years but last time I did MSY took 45 mins to start the carousel and another hour to finish loading all the bags
This is a workforce issue

Shut up. You don’t know anything about my shoulders or the head which rests upon the neck connected to them.

Don’t fly out of MSY. If you live in NOLA it’s probably quicker to drive to Gulfport or BTR than it is to deal with MSY. That airport is garbage water.

I am not ashamed at all to say I love Spirit. The alacart way they handle their airline and the ability to pay extra to get everything I want is great. Plus you’re nearly guaranteed free live entertainment and performance art.

This statement is proof enough that no one should take anything you say seriously anymore. Thanks for providing us with such.

They’re a la carte way is putting them out of business so enjoy it while you can.

Problem 1 - they charge for checked baggage and God forbid your wife packs too much shite and her case weighs 51 lbs.
Problem 2 - inconsistent overhead bin size. This is due to the fricking airlines making everyone fly on one of those CRJ to Atlanta, Houston, or Dallas just to wherever the frick they’re actually going. Seems horribly inefficient (but that’s another story for another thread). The overhead bin size on a CRJ is like enough to squeeze a T-shirt and a cassette tape in. So your wife stuffs all her shite halfway under the seat. Then she can’t unstuff it until your arse gets in the aisle. So I gotta elbow Glen from row 33 who immediately bumped my elbow before the plane even stopped rolling.
Problem 3 - the FAA and the major airlines (including Southworst and Spirit/Frontier Allegiant etc) should all endorse already pre-approved certified bags that must include the label/insignia on them in order to carry on. Yes that may suck if you have an already useful bag, but take it for the team. If I gotta take my light bill down to the DMV with my passport to get a different license just to fly to Bessemer Alabama, then we can force everyone to buy these damn bags. If your wife refuses to use that bag, then she checks it for another fee or TSA throws that fricker in the garbage.
Problem 4 - don’t let people on with more shite than someone riding a bus out of Jerkmenistan to Kabul with a cage of chickens. And NO frickING ASIAN FOOD. NO frickING FOOD PERIOD BROUGHT ON BOARD.
I have other thoughts about the wasteful drink cart and holding your trash for an hour and bullshite like beverage snack service, and also the hub verses route flying schedule. Also even have an idea of mailing your fricking luggage via UPS/FedEx in advance ( I used to do that too before they started sucking)
It’s easier to just fly by private jet.

Stupid post of the year. I don't want to check any fly rods or tennis rackets. Too darned expensive.

Why did you single out Asian food? Where are you flying that people bringing tons of Asian Food into the airport and onto the plane is an issue?
And what do you mean by Asian food?
Sushi?
Fried rice?
Curry?
Pad Thai?
Spring rolls?
Dimsum?
Russian food?

Ideally it would be even more expensive as to price out riff raff like fly fisherman and tennis players.
