Well, you don't want them to rearm and come back, and they do have imprisoned protestors to think about. I'd hold onto them. That could look bad though.

nah, the parliament building is what they're trying to get to (the street the front lines are on) but the police are blocking them, thats what started the siege on the fron tlines with the barricades and fires

they don't have the capability to take them prisoner, these people need to get back to the front line.. and this way they could come away with some good shields

Helmets, tear gas, and guns with rubber bullets too. It'll be interesting to see what kind of weapons they find these guys with. They could have frag grenades and live ammunition.
