If there was political will, the mines could be professionally cleared, Iran's minelaying capacity could be destroyed forever and both sides of the straight could be occupied by civilized nations (The Kingdom, the Emirates, etc.) and there would be no problems with moving tankers out of the Gulf.

None. Zero. Bupkis.

Someone (or a group of "someones") is allowing this to happen.

The river current would never be higher than the top speed of a ship. During the highest flood stage rivers, the following current is around 5-6 kts.

I thought they said the current was like 10knots due to wind, and the ship topped out at like 6-7.

I probably misunderstood.


I'll stick by my tugboat captain comment, though.

Saw that firsthand.
