The show got so popular people forgot they were terrible people. There's resolution at the end when they end up in jail. And every character is brought back to testify against them to remind the viewers how awful they are.

The Chuckles Bites The Dust episode of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" where Mary tries not to laugh while reading the clown's eulogy is hilarious, and won an Emmy for best outstanding writing in a comedy series.

Also, the "Family Guy" Who Wants Chowder? bit never gets old.
