Front Day

Such an underrated event every year. Even better when it lands on a weekend. Sometimes we get a little teaser in early September, only to see 3 more weeks of the muggies before the real one comes.

Hurricane Gustav
i was in a vehicle that was high centered on a tree, in rural louisiana with a tornado 100 yards away at night.

Was similar to that scene in twister. Had to abandon the vehicle and take shelter under a nearby carport.

I remember the rain feeling like needles on my skin.

This is a fond memory for me too. I was 9. I recall playing Life Force on Nintendo and stopping my game to go play in the snow.

Friend,

Your mention of “Front Day” resounded with several of us here. Certainly very strongly did it with me. Many years ago (seemingly in a previous lifetime now to me it seems) I was, in the common parlance, a “Tugboat Captain”*. I was active in my trade on the inland and near-shore waters of the Gulf Coastal area from Florida to Texas. In this profession, Front Day is always noted and remembered specifically from year-to-year. It remains my impression that it generally fell during the last calendar week of September all those years ago.

Again, it is our pleasure to be able read your work here. Thank you for taking the effort to create and post it. The potential thought of a TulaneLSU Top 25 list of New Orleans area infrastructure examples has me walking on Cloud Nine.

Please continue to fight the good fight, I remain your humble correspondent-

Best regards,

Mssr Füt
