Then you drive off the lot, total your truck, and get a check for $40k from insurance while still on the hook for that $70k note.
Well that's true with any vehicle purchase. People less off can be upside down $2k and be fricked.

I see a bunch of people haven't priced gently used trucks lately, what you said is the truth.
I priced a similarly equipped truck with up to 20-30k miles up to 3 years old and they were only about $1500-$3000 less that what I could get a new one for, a new one that comes with better interest rates and more warranty. Not everyone can pay cash for a vehicle, I'm one of them.

Ultra low to zero interest is a great deal if the product is correctly priced. It's essentially free money considering COL increases and the time value of money.
The truck is a bad deal due to depreciation, not interest.
This is the truth. The trucks are overpriced to begin with. Spreading your payment out over 7 years obviously makes it more affordable as far as the monthly note goes but it ultimately remains a depreciating asset. I buy used and drive forever. Both of my vehicles are 10 years old.
It's just funny how the car sales industry tries to trick people into thinking that this is a great idea.
