Other than the magnet schools, Jefferson Parish Schools have fallen off a cliff.

I graduated Grace King in '82.

-- We had to BUS minority students in from the Bunche Village area so that we had SOME. Now with NO BUSING, they are the majority (74% minority enrollment).

-- Back in the day, it was pretty much well-off kids driving their own Cougars or Firebirds, or mom/dad's Mirada or customized van to school. Nowadays, 56.8% of the kids are on free/discounted lunch.

-- In the second year of having boys attend, a Grace King student was Boys State President. People I graduated with are doctors, lawyers, business owners; one old friend is a Major General in the USMC... Pretty much EVERYONE graduated back then, and lots went on to college at places like Penn, Naval Academy/Air Force Academy, UT, A&M, Trinity, and of course Tulane or LSU. Now the school meets the state average graduation rate-- 67%.

Bump to note that Haynes has 24 National Merit Semifinalists this year, which is the most in the state among public schools.

My dad and all of my uncles went to Rummel in the early 80's....me and my younger cousin went to Brother Martin... In fact I don't think I ever seriously considered Rummel

Because your parents let you make that decision...

And I’m sure you followed some friend ...

According to that guy’s posting history, he hates Rummel, and he never ever said why...

actually no..my best friend at the time went to Rummel. I still remember him being kinda pissed at me when I picked BMHS. If anything my parent's asked me to choose between BM and Jesuit...really didn't want me at Rummel
