If I had to do it all over, my kids would be more into summer reading clubs. As long as their grades are good, it’s more important cause that is what will determine their future more than ball. (I played every sport in HS except track so no homo).

My youngest son just graduated high school. He has played baseball and football since he was 6. He played rec ball till he was 12 then started playing summer ball as I call it. He played for his Jr. High and the high school teams. We have “traveled” some to play ball, usually one “big” tournament each summer. He has played at east Cobb, Memphis, Florida etc. we have absolutely had a blast. Once graduated, he had the opportunity to play baseball at small colleges. He chose not too and to go to Auburn and be a student instead. We didn’t do it for any reason other than he loved to play. If I had it to do over again, I would do things a little different, but not much. The world is changing, I don’t have to like it, but I do have to live in it. I do love me a good “travel ball” thread.

Now you listen here, if these kids don’t play HS ball they just won’t turn out right. What will they have to reminisce about at chilis with the boys?

What a fricking loser spending all that money on camping and fishing. Especially if the kids love camping and fishing.

Kids will like whatever you put in front of them until they are teenagers. All that changes. Kids are gullible. Parents are too.

These threads are so boring. There will be 30 pages of essays debating tourney ball. LoL
It depends which organization you play with. Just like everything in life, some are better than others.

Seems it comes down to affordability, talent, and want to. I can't see paying for a child to do this if they aren't into it and actually have some talent. Seems like a waste of time and money if they never see the field. Not sure how I'd feel about it if they aren't very good but want to travel with their friends.

Guessing parents run the spectrum, too. All of them can't be vicariously living through their children or keeping up with the Joneses.

All BS aside I’m sure there’s some good and bad. We did AAU ball for a while. Nothing like traveling to all these “World Series”. I do know several people where it is there whole lifestyle, the only people they spend time with are the other parents on the team, and the only thing they talk about is travel ball

Are you telling me if freshman Roy Hobbs shows up at Smalltown High for baseball tryouts the coach is going to turn him down? "Sorry, son, but Hayden/Brayden/Kayden/Layden hit .243 at East Cobb. I've got no room for you."

No, that's not at all what he's saying.

Maybe an analogy to LSU's baseball team will help. Think of LSU's baseball team as a top high school baseball program. Kids like Dylan Crews, Tre Morgan, Tommy White, and Paul Skenes are likely going to make the team whether they played travel ball or not. These are kids that are just physically superior athletes and have physical tools that not very many other kids have. However, these kids likely play travel ball anyway because kids tend to enjoy activities they excel in, and these kids clearly excel in baseball.

Then you have kids like Cade Beloso, Gavin Dugas, Alex Milazzo. These kids are not as physically gifted as Dylan Crews, and they need reps to improve their game. These kids need to play travel ball to have a shot to make the team. Unfortunately, rec ball doesn't get them the reps against equal competition that they will need to improve.

So, did Dylan Crews need to play travel ball to make his high school team? No, he likely would have made the team anyway. But Dylan Crews played travel ball anyway because he excelled at baseball and enjoyed the game.

I’ve wondered why is travel baseball so big but you don’t see the same stuff for basketball or football.

You’d think a 7 on 7 summer travel football league would be popular. Make Jaxson the next QB star

oh it is with a different demographic

1) the amount of 13-14 year old rec leagues in louisiana is down to only a handful

Wouldn't that mean you're in a rec league paying travel ball prices?

All these losers bashing travel ball is ridiculous. My family is spending 10 days at the beach right now and we are perfectly fine with how we spend our time.

My son loves baseball but he also loves a lot of other things. If you allow baseball to take up their entire life, that is on you. My son plays 3 sports at different seasons and absolutely loves playing baseball. There are definitely some parents living through him but there is zero chance we allow baseball to dictate our lives. Just because some parents on a team live that way doesn’t mean everyone on their team does. We still do all the same shite like weekends at the beach/lake as well as everything else in the summer. Your pettiness is showing.

Don’t be mad your kid got put on the developmental team.

10 days.... that's a lot are you bringing your team logo PFG shirts to the dry cleaners there so they can last the whole trip?

I have no idea wtf any of that means but travel ball is dumb. No adult with any hobbies at all that I know is willing to give up every single weekend for braxxxtyn to get his 45th ring.

We play 12 - 13 tourneys a year. The other 40 weekends we do whatever we want.

ll that said, kids can actually make money playing college ball. Never even contemplated that when my boy was growing up…now, every offer comes with straight money, in addition to school/room/food…

$47.5k/yr from one school in his top 3. That’s just nuts.

who the hell is giving NIL to the kicker

Menard is mostly kids from the Cenla knights etc.
the oldest group of knights playing travel ball age stuff is entering 7th grade right now. They weren’t a thing here till 5 years ago.

They have a pretty Menard centric group playing summer HS circuit w the Knights this year.

The best team around here has been the Legends, those kids are mostly entering 9th grade this year
