Transmission question

Lexus RX300, two wheel drive. Right front wheel been making a noise. Sounds just like a bearing going bad. Take it to shop this morning. I figure at worst, a wheel hub assembly job and if really catastrophic, new axle.
They drive it say yes, that is the noise. put it on the rack and then tell me nope, its transmission. Don't recommend a rebuild on that one, say you have to buy a complete transmission, new or used, and its going to cost you several thousand dollars.
Should I go get a second opinion or not?

No. Putting your complete trust in a mechanic at a dealership is always best.

I just got a rebuilt transmission from Aamco with a 36,000 mile warranty. It was $500 cheaper than a used transmission with no warranty from the dealership. I highly recommend getting a second opinion

You should call Click or Clack. Whichever one is still living.
