10 million tourist visits New Orleans each year.
Anyone here dogging the city want to take a stab on the % of tourist being victims each year?
I’ll wait.

my man!

You probably have this stat on your screen as I type, but I bet there is a higher % of pitbull attacks in New Orleans than tourist being victims of crime, each year.

No, you my man. Thank you for what you do for this City! Pit bull or not, you’re alright in my book.

New Mexico IMHO has far more dangers than NOLA considering all the Mexican mafia and South American type gangs that litter the southwest.

She came out with her life, what's wrong with waiting until she's healthy?

Waiting until she is healthy could mean weeks or months of hotels and missed work. I have no problem with people setting up GoFundMe for this type of situation.

It is a little concerning that the woman's daughter who set up the GoFundMe misspelled the name of the city that her mom lives in.

quote:

She needs to go home to Las Cruses, New Mexico. We have found a rehabilitation center there for her to stay in and recover.

From local (NM) news articles it sounds like the husband is trying to rent an RV or van to drive her home. And the wife is 68 so she is at minimum covered by Medicare. Also, they were in a local friend's personal vehicle so who knows how the car insurance benefits on that pan out.

Las Cruces News Article

The stolen/missing purse is one obstacle to her getting home by commercial airline, no ID.

quote:

Brennan said he's received support from the New Orleans community, especially after the Times-Picayune published a story Sunday detailing the couple's trials. Several residents have offered to help out financially and one man offered to lend the couple his RV.

Brennan only recently thought about setting up a Go Fund Me to raise money.

"I've spent all my energy dealing with my wife for two weeks, and when someone mentioned it (a Go Fund Me), I thought, 'Well maybe that's a good idea," he said.

"We are still trying to figure out a solution to getting her safely home," Bankey wrote in the campaign. "We don't know how much any of this is going to cost yet but it will be substantial and anything will help.

"We are raising money for medical transportation home and the rehabilitation needed once she is there," she wrote.

Sounds like some good people in New Orleans are trying to help out. Despite the crime and shitty sports, no one can argue with the fact that during tough times the people of LA will give you the shirt off their back.

According to the story they weren’t robbed or shot. They got reareneded. Now just because she doesn’t have insurance they want other people to pay for her ride home?

I would call you a fricking retard, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you did not read anything other than the OP.

I don't think it's far fetched to be their age, have that happen, and be that far away from home, and want to get out of there. I know I wouldn't want to stay indefinitely in the city where it happened, either. Is he staying in a hotel or sleeping in the plastic chair in her room? Is he going to Antoine's every day or eating hospital food in her room? How many changes of clothes does he have, and if he's taking his laundry to a laundromat in NOLA....eww.

If this was my mom and dad, I would be doing whatever I could to try to get them home. I'd hope that most people would too. I wouldn't want to tell my mom "Tough shite. That's what you get. Suck it up and stay there."

Of course, since I lost my dad a few years ago, maybe I'm just letting my emotions get the best of me. Yeah, that's it.

Of course, I could just decide I don't have to give them any help and carry on with my day.
