But for people who don’t watch tv and don’t know about this great place may be clueless.

Its one thing to say stay put because you dont want people to be out because of the tornado but its another thing if you are trying to make production.

How much does that kk d of safe room cost?

Here in Louisiana it’s the bathroom or nothing. Not a basement around.

Reminds me of hurricane Ida when the hurricane hunters were malfunctioning and couldn’t take off.

Well after the first siren is it safer to stay put?

Idk about the area and distance to safety or timing or these things in general.

Cheaper than you probably think. An easy route is to have one installed in an existing garage on a slab. You can do the same as a freestanding structure, but the anchoring is different. I know a couple people who have gone the garage route.

You can spend $5k-8k and have one that will hold 6 people or so. If I were building new construction today and taking on a house note, I would 100% have one.

99% of tornado warnings, even for those "in the polygon" amount to nothing. So, if you let employees leave for every type weather warning, you'll lose a lot of production.

Would they really lose that much production if they shut down for every tornado warning they are under? How many times a year are they under one? For how long? Twice a year maybe?? Doesn’t seem like that big a loss to me

I do understand that sending workers home 5 minutes before a tornado hits isn’t exactly a great plan so definitely need some thought to be put into what exactly happens but shut down production doesn’t seem like a big deal to me

Every new phone I get I install a weather app from my local channel of choice. I set the notifications I want and forget it. That channel sends three or four 1 minute videos to the app a day. I have to actively ignore their updates to not see them.

That is literally the bare minimum that I can possibly do, and if that were all I did it would be enough to know what is going on and act accordingly.

Personal responsibility is severely lacking in regards to weather. When the inevitable happens, and every single time it happens, the blame game is played. The majority of the time there is no one to be blamed but the individual.

Every phone has emergency alerts to. As soon as we had a Tornado emergency, it went off. Tornado warnings to.

Too many variables to say one way or the the other & not every weather event is going to be the same.

Yep. I'm more speaking to the "We had no idea it was even going to be bad weather." With how good forecasting is these days, the emergency alert that hits your phone while you're out duck hunting or fricking in the backseat of an oldsmobile behind an abandoned church (don't judge me, frickers....I was young, dumb, and horny) shouldn't be the first you've heard of possible severe weather.

I knew about Friday’s weather two days in advance. Normally, I have instincts or gut feelings about weather. I had bad feelings about April 27, 2011. Bad feelings earlier this year when Moundville took a hit (my sister lives there). On Friday, nothing. Felt totally fine. Knew it would be dicey…but frick me. Guess my instincts were……off

When I was in the basement, I was really calm. Even with the roar, I felt secure. I’ve studied tornadoes since I was 7 years old. Seen 2 of them up close. This topped it for sure.

I think that just linked the Bowling Green tornado into 1

ETA: I'm not sure... Memphis doesn't have things listed in an easy way

ETA2: now that I look at it... looks like it's just an update to a tornado that was already preliminarily rated EF3
