The one thing you can count on, is that if there is a massive hail storm in Central Texas, then odds are it's hitting SA.

We had a big hail storm roll thru Round Rock a couple weeks back with legitimate golf ball and tennis ball sized hail. I'm getting a new roof (again) and I'm on the wait list to get the truck fixed.

How people live in DFW and don’t have a weather radio is beyond me

Serious question:

Is a weather radio better than a smart phone set correctly?

One of my close friends lives in Fort Worth. He texted a video of the hail blowing out the skylight in his house snd rain coming in. He also said he’s pretty sure one of his cars will be totaled

THIS is the hail I was talking about (photo taken by my colleague in Hondo).

Thunder is pretty constant right now. Wind picking up.

Someone may have more detailed info. I prefer the weather radio bc it can be brought in shelter with me and I can listen to broadcast detailing exactly where the tornado is. Phone is good for warning but doesn’t broadcast detailed tracking and signals get dicey when everyone starts using them.

If you put the storm Southwest of San Antonio in any Southeastern state it is tornado warned ten times out of ten.

In isn't uncommon for cell service to go down. When it does, the weather radio will keep working. They all have battery backups, too. They are also loud as hell and can be programmed for surrounding counties. They've proven much more reliable and effective for nighttime events.

A few years ago there was one on the ground within 3 blocks of my house. Was able to listen to weather radio while in shelter while they detailed as it passed each street so I always knew exactly where it was.

Make sure you buy one that can be programmed by county or even zip code. You don’t want it going off all night for something across town. Mine is programmed to only go off for tornado warnings, not watches. I’ve also turned off alerts for flood warnings and other things not worth having a heart attack over at 3:00 am.

Thanks. I had one years ago but got rid of after being woken several times for things like a flash flood watch in a neighboring County.
