I was graduating in the early years of TOPS if I remember right, and the requirements were something like a 23 ACT and you had to finish in the top 10% of your class. Sad that the requirements have been stripped to damn near nothing.

I graduated in 96 and at the time it was the top 5% of the graduating class. I was given tops with a 21 on the ACT. You had to maintain a 3.0 or better, also. Two degrees later and working on my second masters... I'd say it was a poor indicator.

Yeah - A 30 gets you the Chancellor's Aide scholarship which doesn't even require an essay or separate application.

I got this scholarship in 2000 but the requirements werent a 30. Was lower because I didnt have a 30. We had to go to a meeting every month though which was basically a dinner

It was 30 for incoming class of 2013. Although with further research it appears as though it changed names to President's Aide and now requires a 33.

Yeah, I forget how bad some schools are

Idk what how they figured it out in 02. I'm just stating what I had and what they gave me

2007, the Chancellor's scholarship only covered an additional $600/semester. There was no higher tier TOPS that covered room and board, I don't know where you are getting that information. There was a higher tier which gave you an additional stipend, but didn't touch the cost of living on campus and eating food.

Scholarships to other schools were available, but no full rides. A 32 for a middle-class white male isn't special enough to warrant free tuition outside of Louisiana. It's hard to justify taking a partial scholarship somewhere that will end up costing you a lot more than taking a freeish education in state.

Maybe there were multiple different Chancellor's Aides. Mine didn't require attendance at anything, but it guaranteed you an on-campus job if you chose to take it.

33 is tough. The average test scores for incoming students have rocketed in the last decade.

I made a 36 in the 7th grade. Does anyone think that they revise the threshold up under Edwards?

It provides an additional stipend but doesn't even come remotely close to covering 1/3 of room/board/books.

A 27 provides for the highest level of TOPS, which is an additional $800 annually.

hmm yea there must be. mine was around $600 or so a semester and i had to go to this dinner/meeting every month. i think my guidance counselor in high school recommended it for me because i had no idea about it. i think i only had a 27 or 28 on the ACT and that was enough for it.

Yea I took the ACT in 1999 and a 33 was very rare. I thought I destroyed the test with my upper 20s score. Maybe theyre getting inflated now

34, 35 and 36 are worlds different than a 32. I also got "scholarships" for DII football, but I'd prefer to focus on an education than spend 4 years at some shite school playing games on Saturday at a leased local high school.

As per the free room and board, I can guarantee you the option wasn't available in 2007. Had it been, my dad would have been riding my arse for not getting it, and he attended every TOPS meeting at my high school. I qualified for the stipend my first semester which only covered most of the fees and a couple of books, but I lost it after falling to a 2.5 GPA my first semester. My dad was not thrilled.

I admittedly did not go to LSU, but Tech, and I made a 29 and got enough scholarships that I got money back each quarter the first couple of years

Tech and LSU weren't that far apart back then.

Although I'm aware tuition costs have risen since then as well and I'm assuming TOPS hasn't gone up with it.

I had a 33 and got the Alumni Association top 100 scholarship, which gave me a choice of doing research or getting a guaranteed on campus job. I think that scholly required a 33. I did the research part for 2 weeks and transferred to a regular student job, which was only slightly less boring than the research.

Depends on your ACT score and bench max.

I meant to but keep forgetting to. I will later this week or weekend.
