They are looking for guns in the glove compartment/center console. They have some kind of contraption that can quietly break a window, so they don't have to open the door and trip the alarm. They put their head and upper body through the window opening to search the vehicle.

I live in ground zero of this crisis. What's infuriating is that we pay a $500 a year surcharge on our already exorbitant property taxes to have some security guard drive around the neighborhood. Obviously he isn't catching the guys. Some drunk kid smashed my car window after Bacchus one year and I called the neighborhood watch immediately, who couldn't catch the kid who was staggering up the street.

New Orleans is a fun place to live but our democratic leaders are too dumb and incompetent. LaToya isn't qualified to work at McDonald's. She's either taking a taxpayer funded trip, lying about traffic cameras, or hiding bronze statues in secret locations.

It always seems to me that a lot of the streets that have been repeatedly hit are dark. Not many security lights up.

Then like the ones posted today people leaving their stuff unlocked.

Relay attack allows thugs to intercept the signal from your fob. You can prevent this my placing your keys in a metal box

Seems odd. Not sure I understand why downvote?

My wife puts hers in an empty ice bucket every night. I just put mine in the drawer

But yes, the remote intercepter is real.

Sadly booby traps are frowned upon.
I agree though. Get a gun, build it to explode on trigger pull, will at least knock the criminal out of commission.

Be better to trigger on magazine release or slide cocking. You know they check for ammo as soon as they get back in the get away car. If it was built cleanly how would anyone know when or where the knuckleheads picked it up. They may be a mile away before they trigger it. Could be non-lethal with some hot arse pepper sauce or bear mace.

I lived in NO in the 80’s. Got cleaned out robbed. Witnesses saw 3 black guys busting in my back door but were too scared to call the cops. Moved out of NO and never looked back.

Multiple people I know are trying to escape Lakeview, currently. Just sad; JP or Kenner cops will show, immediately, with this type of crime.

Another reason I always carry my wallet in the front pocket and place my hands in front of the pockets. Big black obese dude tried to snatch my wallet a few years ago, had the bouncer look. Said something like "I was just playing/checking you". I said no, you thought I wouldn't feel that on my back pockets.

This is petty crime. Could happen anywhere.

It doesn't happen very often where I live...but when it does, it sets off a strange series of events. One is the police actually showing up quickly when called. Next, the police actually seem to care and make an effort to recover the items.

Strangest of all, days later, they caught the people involved and prosecuted them and it seems to have prevented further incidents.

If only that last part "could happen anywhere."

My street was hit 2 weeks ago and my electrician who was there installing some stuff had his gun stolen. Cops showed up quick when I said a gun was stolen. Said the red nissan titan on my cameras w/ the 5 kids was a stolen vehicle. Cop even recognized the kids.

This is the new normal in New Orleans and happens all over the city, every night! Sometimes it gets reported through the media and most are not getting logged by NOPD. When they hit multiple cars in one area, those are not being tracked as multiple events. The glass repair companies can't keep up with orders. In my short drive from my house to Audubon Park yesterday I counted five cars with trash bags or other coverings on door windows.

Probably spends more time around them then their parents.

Schools, Crimes, etc... a lot to do with poor parenting. Some people become too burdened to parent effectively and it is a major crisis.
