Why waste time with all these spurious religions when you can go straight to Dianetics?

A conservative Christian I knew took a college class where they read the Quaran. He was talking to a church lady at work one day and expressed amazement at “how anyone could read that book and believe it.”

I almost did a spit take. He apparently totally buys all the stuff in the Bible about rising from the dead, virgin birth, walk on water, etc. but that Quaran is suspect.

Doug Stanhope has a bit about someone arriving from another planet and finding a Bible in a bookstore. What are the odds he would say, “This sounds completely reasonable. I believe every word of it.”

I am constantly arguing with a young nephew of mine about the inherent violence written into the Koran. He kept saying that Islam is completely peaceful and that they only attack us because we interfere with their countries.

So about a year ago I ordered an inexpensive copy from amazon and proceeded to read it and highlight every time it said to kill someone.

He was very surprised when I gave him the copy full of yellow.

There is pretty much no difference in these stories. Cain/Qabil, kills his brother, is punished by god, and feels remorse.

Well, I believe that and the whole Bible too.

To the OP, don't read a Koran. Bible is all you need.

Is there anything wrong with a Christian reading the Koran?

No, I read it. It's interesting.
He married a rich widower. All his sons with her died. Only one daughter had kids. (Later split the religion)
Muhammad wrote the entire koran, it's not a compilation of books. It reads more like the book of Mormon than the bible.
Jesus and Mary are prophets.

The wearing of hijabs, and burkas were added later.
I didn't see the 72 virgins either.

No if you really believe in Jesus. Then it's good to know what other people believe that way you can dialogue and convert to the true way.
