Football Games. It was the whole family getting dressed up and going.Early 70's.
The best times were the few where one of his buddies would go instead of my Mom.Kind of see your Father as a real guy.

My dad was a college basketball referee (southland conference ) as a side job, and I traveled to many games with him and was the game's "ball boy" and the "kid who wiped up sweat in the key when players fell down".
There were many times where we would drive up to Shreveport from Baton Rouge for a game and then drive back the same night. Don't remember the talks we had but I do remember the time spent was awesome. He wasn't around much in my younger years so it was his effort of making it up to me....and I loved every minute of it. I was around 12 when we did these games.

My dad and I used to always go to the park outside of our neighborhood and practice whatever sport I was playing that time of the year (this was all on my request, he was never one of those parents that forced me to practice). When we left we would always go to the gas station and get an ICEE.
I'm now experiencing that with my son now.

Going to Suns games with my dad was always my favorite thing when I was little.

Something simple. Just him taking me to the ball field and hitting me ground balls and pitching me BP.

Plenty of good memories we were at our houseboat during the summer and marsh camp for hunting in the winter.

Hunting. Letting him shuck me oysters on cold nights and me eatin em up till I could puke. Growing up in dothan I can remember having to listen to a lot of LSU games outside by his uck. Staying up late watching turkey hunting videos. Fishing in lafitte. First deer. First turkey. Soooooo much.

Has anyone said hookers and blow yet?
My dad could fix anything. He did all the repairs on all our cars/trucks, fixed anything that broke at home, and usually did the same for neighbors. I would hand him tools and help with stuff but I did not inherit his skills for sure. I would always laugh when he would get frustrated and let out a blue streak of cussing when something wouldn't work right and hearing my mother yell, "Honey...watch your mouth in front of the kids". He has been gone for 15 years and my first thought when something needs fixing is "I need to ask Dad how to fix this".

Pops used to drive from NOLA on the weekends to pick me up then drive back. I always loved cars and driving so he'd let me drive back and forth. Nothing was cooler than cruising down the interstate at age 14.

My dad pushed me to be very goal oriented when I was young. We would throw the baseball for hours upon hours. He also set academic milestones for me that were ahead of schooling standards. He was home promptly at 5:00 every afternoon and we spent lots of time together every single day.

My dad's day-off was Thursdays. When I was in preschool/kindergarten he would "take" me to school (as far as my mother knew) then we'd spend the rest of the day hanging out and doing guy stuff. We always ate at a little greasy spoon placed called the Krispy Chick

Hey y'all, this thread delivers. Some great stories in here.
Growing up, I think my favorite thing to do with my dad was go crawfishing.
He was the manager for the power company, so we had a key to this gate for a shell road that ran under a power line. The road went all the way from Airline Highway to Lake Pontchartrain. It was pretty much virgin crawfish waters, and only crawfished by us.
Pretty much every weekend during the spring - me, him, maybe a friend of mine and/or his - would go crawfish there. He'd let me bring my little motorcycle, and we'd ride up and down that road, catch a sack of bugs, do the work of St. Patrick with a .22 or .410, and just generally arse off.
As a kid, there was no better Saturday or Sunday.

Never will forget the feeling of the first time I drank a beer with my dad, in a bar, with just me, him, and a friend of his.
May have been the first time I felt like a grown man, in the eyes of my dad.

When I was a kid, I use to sit in the recliner with my Dad every Saturday night and we used to watch two episodes of Cops back to back then watch America's Most Wanted right after.
From the time I could walk until I moved out of the house, Anytime I would pass by the recliner and he was sitting in it, he'd stick his hand out and high-five me.
Good times.

My gosh, everything! We did fish a lot together, but many other things as well. He always had time for us and enjoyed being a father. Fishing trips, throwing the ball around, shooting a game of horse and on Saturday night huddle around the radio for LSU football. He died too young (51) Miss him still

The best thing I got to do with my Dad was to hunt with him. I lost him when I was 13 though.
The thing I enjoy most with my son is throwing the baseball together and going to LSU games together. Their is just something right about throwing a baseball with your son
