Automatics are becoming more common in heavy over the road trucks and you can't buy a 1 ton diesel truck with a manual.
I never said they weren't/aren't. I actually acknowledged what you say above by saying that the aforementioned people overwhelmingly use manual transmissions; meaning, I acknowledge that they are making strides every day in having automatic control over the vehicle that a professional driver has with a standard transmission, and FTR, I welcome it. But that is not the point made in my reply, my point is this: that the poster's flawed opinion of a manual transmission as they are today in consumer and professional vehicles only offering a bit more control is simply not true.
That is simply not true.
But times are a changing, and I for one will gladly put any of our future commercial vehicles with auto transmissions into full use once they offer the benefits of a manual, and I know full-well that it'll happen. I'm looking for profit margins, not winning an OT dick measuring contest.
Again, I never said/ never WILL SAY that I'll never buy a heavy hauling consumer or commercial grade truck with an auto tranny once they match the pros and operational control of an automatic tranny with that of an experienced operator of a manual transmission in heavy pulling scenarios; all I'm saying is that here and now, "a fraction" more control in many settings is not true.

Sure you can. However the one main reason they're phasing them out is because folks don't know how to operate one, and so they don't buy them, and so why make them? It has nothing to do with capability.

truck nutz on your 7.3 4 speed 'stroke
I don't own a 7.3 anymore. Even though it's a reliable engine, it is a boring engine. I do have a set of heavy-grained, custom-crafted mahogany truck nuts though, but that is none of your business, mind you.

Not gonna argue with you there.
But they do have a long way to go and a short time to get there...

They can take a lot of abuse and their sound is unmistakable as they wind up. I have the M21, close ratio in mine. I have a M22 in my shop that I picked up at a swap meet. Needs going through, maybe one day....

The conundrum of sarcasm in written form being lost upon the reader is one that we will never have a final solution to.
It was tongue-in-cheek. Don't take what I say, nor what others say, on an anonymous message board so seriously. There's no such thing as cringey on the OT, as the whole damned thing is defined by Webster as: cringey
