She's tried practically everything. It either doesn't work at all, works for a little while and quits, or in some cases has the opposite effect its supposed to. And if it has a side effect she gets it. At this point she's very disillusioned with pharmacology. She's reluctant to try anything else.

Two years ago she tried a med that made her feel like her old self for a few weeks, then stopped working altogether and left her feeling worse than before. Heartbreaking.

That’s absolutely ignorant. All meds have side effects

I get double vision from Wellbutrin and easy bruising, central apneas, pernicious anemia, and plmd from Effexor

Antipsychotics such as abilify, which are being used more frequently in the treatment of unipolar depression, have lots of side effects

what is this?

And she hasn’t tried everything. I doubt she’s tried any of the other treatments I mentioned to you

And there comes a point where you don’t like feeling depressed or manic enough that you would rather put up with the side effects

I’m bipolar and have suffered weight gain and I now have tardive dyskinesia, which is a permanent movement disorder. But I’ll take both over feeling like shite

Also, benzos have two serious side effects, tolerance and dependency. And there’s rebound anxiety

And I’ve had a couple depressive episodes and have never been suicidal

So keep your ignorance to yourself

I take Wellbutrin for depression. I have to watch myself because I have had anger issues.

My daughter struggles with borderline personality disorder. Every day since age 13 has been a challenge. She’s 22 now and doing better with therapy and medication. Hope to have a fully functional adult in the near future.

I'm just a guy on the internet but it seems she doesn't want to be on a medicine which is understandable. Is she seeing a psychiatrist or just a internal medicine doc? A psychiatrist has better judgement. Any worth there salt can explain, adjust, take off, switch, ect.

My mom takes it, and so after trying a couple of meds they suggested I give it a shot. My wife is a PMHNP, and noticed the sudden anger outbursts that came once I started Wellbutrin. I was the most irritable I’ve ever been. Quickly decided it wasn’t for me and so I’ve been off of medication since and relying on therapy and emdr!

I’ve been flirting with the idea of getting back on medication and did a swab test that my wife’s job provides. I should have a detailed report soon about what medication options work best with my genetic makeup! There’s still a long way to go in mental health treatment and research, but seeing progress is promising.

Needs more recognition. I have not heard of this until now. My family has a history of depression, have suffered myself, and as many know lost a sibling to suicide.

Too many people do not understand mental illness.

Poor parenting, no community, no real values beyond "success" in our materialism driven corporate culture.. that worships fake notions of beauty and hyper-sexual imagery.

= mental illness

sad!

Damn. Just got on here and saw this thread. A lifelong friend of mine from our hometown hung himself today. Couple people talked to him at the bar in town last night, and said he seemed fine. Laughing, joking, shooting the shite. He had been struggling with his gf breaking up with him earlier this year. Bartender said he mentioned that last night, but she thought nothing of it. Small town so it hit us all pretty hard.

Check up on your people, man.
