A lot of you baws have admitted to suffering from depression (me included). Don't forget that there is always someone to talk to. Hell, even this board can come through if you need someone in a pinch.

This is not a "woman's disease" and there is no shame admitting you are depressed. Being a man means doing what's right for you and your family. Get help and talk to others.

Like that time when I heroically stopped a poster from committing suicide.

My wife suffers from treatment resistant depression. It's pretty tough.

See my edit

Has she tried abilify? I’ve known several people who had success adding abilify to their antidepressant

Also, I’d look into TMS, seroquel/rexulti, deplin, and genesight

I really feel for her because I just got out of a depressive episode, so I read a lot about the treatment of it

Yeah it had really bad side effects. Practically everything she tries either doesn't work at a or has really bad side effects. The only thing that works a little bit is wellbutrin. She gets by on that plus xanax for when she has anxiety. Sometimes she feels relatively okay. Most of the time she's down to way down. She's going through a rough patch currently.

I've been doing this since 2003. I know everything there is to know as a patient. Anti depressants used today have little to no side effects. Xanax, klonopin and the other benzos have zero side effects. Older medicine are the one's with legitimate side effects.

If she's suicidal then you have to take her to the hospital. If she's depressed then she probably has suicide on her mind.

I just started Lexapro. Hoping it helps because I'm dealing with some brutal depression.

Except for motor impairment, respiratory depression, and withdrawal from prolonged use that can kill you...

motor impairment is not a side effect. If you don't go by the prescription then yes you can have serious issues.

Man, I'm sure glad I have you instead of those wasted years of medical school and clinical experience.

Can you tell me about some other drugs, too?

ETA: as per my usual style of posting links with data, if you read the second sentence under "side effects" you'll see what I'm talking about. They say "higher doses" which still refers to the higher end of clinically useful doses, not abuse/overuse doses.

I could show you others if that doesn't interest you. But it's a thing. Scout's honor. See it a lot.

I wish we could find the right combination of meds to help with my father's mental illness.

He only seems to get worse. His anxiety is so bad he won't drive at all now or leave the house. He also suffers from delusions and obsessive thoughts related to his anxiety.

Anyone that has a loved one with a mental illness can likely relate to this feeling of being at your wits end. You just want something to work and help improve their mental health. I just want my dad back. Some days I wonder if I will ever see my real dad again and not this stranger he has become the past couple years.
