Lots of people who fish are trashy. Fishing, nor hunting, is trashy.

So you don't roll your eyes or cringe when someone is very underdressed at a wedding, funeral, nice restaurant, etc?

When I was young and dumb enough to think someone's attire meant anything as to what their character is, I did. But I learned years ago, like I just said, the only thing someone's clothes tells you is what they you to believe, not what is true.

I'll give you a good example. Years ago I met a man, think he's since passed, named Ruben Finney. He was already well into his 60's going on 70. His hands were always covered in grease and old. He wore nothing other than light blue Dickies coveralls and old work boots. He drove a rusted out Chevy C10 pickup truck that looked like the wheels would fall off it any moment. Just by his appearance, you'd think this guy was lucky if he woke up on any given day and had two nickels to rub together.

Turns out Ruben Finney was not only a multi-millionaire, he was one of the most wealthy men in the state of Alabama. And he was generous as well, giving millions to local charities through the years. I personally know of 3 people he paid for their college 100%.

Lesson: Don't judge people by what they look like or what they wear.

Same people saying that it's ridiculous to judge someone for wearing a fishing shirt would judge the shite out of a hipster for wearing below (trust me I do too, but I admit it).

What narrative is that? The one you're imagining in your mind?

That's what you want me to think so you can judge me and thus feel superior. That speaks volumes about you.

To be honest, if I saw that guy walking down the street looking just like that, I'd probably snicker and think his outfit looks funny, even stupid. But what I would not do is think his outfit spoke anything about who he is or what sort of person he might be.

BS

People project with their clothing. People want you to judge them by their appearance. And every single person makes small judgement based off exterior (read: clothing) appearance.

It's human nature. People that claim they do not judge others based off their clothing are lying to themselves. We all do it.

Now...some will dwell on it more than others, but to say you don't judge is bullshite.

Well no shite....You can be judgmental and still be open-minded. On the topic of fishing, you see guides pull up in amazing boats, dressed in their top of the line fishing gear. But one of the best guides I know always wears white t-shirts full of holes and khaki shorts that look grey from dirt and fish guts. I know he's an amazing captain, but my first impression was that this guy looks homeless.

But even you admitted it......you would JUDGE that person. You can always determine if you like them or not later, but you initially judge them. I have good friends that I think dress like douche bags. Doesn't mean I don't like them. They just have terrible taste

Just because this is what you do, doesn't mean "everyone" does it. Your gross over-generalization on this matter is nothing more than trying to make yourself feel better about this habit by trying to claim "everybody does it". Well, that's simply untrue. Not everybody does it.

fishing out of a boat or fly fishing a blue ribbon stream, not sitting on a bucket on the bank

it all counts

I give credit for sitting in the sun on a bucket and being patient.

1. I can hunt deer anywhere I spit in any direction. I have oak trees.
Bambi.

2. buy a mountain lion tag. climb a steep climb up to a plateau near here and be on their turf with a bow.

3. jungle hunting east slope of the Andes where if you get separated from your guide, the natives have the bows. they will boil you with psychedelic mushrooms.

I don't. I've learned people wear what the want to project, it has little to do with who they are.

I can have opinions without "judging." Opinions are often wrong based on mere appearances.

There's a little steam just outside my hometown where you can go catch all the catfish and bream you want. It's the perfect little fishing hole to take your kid in the afternoon after work and school and have a blast for a couple hours.

If that's trashy, then I guess I'm trashy

Depends, are you the black man with a cane pole off the side of a bridge in some shitty town or are you on a 90' sport fish in Costa Rica?
