We can speculate all we want to, but things likely look a lot different when you have to make that decision.....and make no mistake, a whole lot of us will be faced with that decision.....

if you were being serious that is silly. hospice can fix it where you don't feel a thing go in your sleep.

When my Father was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, he had his pistol on his chest of drawers, ready to fire. I let it be. He chose not to use it.
When my landlord in Grad School suffered a debilitating stroke, I would stop and visit him in the hospital on my way home, late afternoons. He talked (as well as he could) about how he hated his loss of control, his difficulty speaking, that he couldn't see a good ending. I listened to him a lot because his family didn't. He had been a full prof., department head, and had kept mentally active after retirement. He hated what he had become and he never made it home. A lot of what he said influenced my POV.
