You generally can't have someone waive your negligence, gross negligence, or intentional conduct. Waivers are for when everything is done as planned and something unanticipated or unforeseen happens.

Those waivers are worthless. But now, the company is also.

Where did you see that? There's a single viewport.

This is what I saw also. The manufacturer of that viewport would only certify it to 1300 meters if I recall correctly. Not 2.5 miles. OceanGate said frick it, if it's good at 1300 it's good at 12,500.

Biden Promises To Send Rescue Train In Search Of Missing Sub

quote:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Solemnly addressing reporters on the White House lawn today, President Biden vowed to send a rescue train in search of the OceanGate Titan, a submersible that went missing on Sunday while diving to reach the wreckage of the Titanic.

Biden has promised that every effort is being made to rush the nation's new train that runs "from the Pacific across the Indian Ocean" over to the site of the Titanic wreck in order to help with rescue efforts.

pretty much this, and that applies to individuals forming LLCs, Sub S corps. etc., who think that will protect their personal assets as well

What does a wrongful death suit get the families? The other subs? ( If there are any)...Im actually curious here. Is there any thing that could be really beneficial to anyone from court case (precedent for more safety in future endeavors??)

In all likelihood nothing. But if the patents or any other IP yield any future gains, that would be something they could go after. I'd guess nothing worth retiring a generation to justify a life.

Titanic Submarine Is 'A Suicide Mission,' Says Ex-Passenger; Broken Part 'Reattached With Zip Ties'

The German explorer revealed that their expedition back then was delayed for five hours and encountered some issues.

"The first submarine didn't work, then a dive at 1,600 meters had to be abandoned. My mission was the fifth, but we also went into the water five hours late due to electrical problems," Loibl said.

Loibl said the bracket of the stabilization tube, which was supposed to provide balance to the vessel when descending into the ocean, was torn apart.

"That was reattached with zip ties."

two sharks were pinged where sounds were coming from and apparently traveled a pretty good distance to get there from the US coast

The sub had redundant safety systems. One system would automatically trigger a surface. Those folks died 1 hr and 45 minutes into that dive. They never even reached the Titanic.

Catastrophic implosion failure. At least it was quick.
Interesting. What leads you to believe it was that quick? And what do think caused it? I totally believe that they have long been gone. I am really intrigued by your take and I'm generally interested in hearing your theory in what could have happened.

For starters, the CEO lied to the investors about who "built" the sub. That alone would be grounds to void it.

This is what I don't get, from videos I saw, they could only see what was outside through the tv monitor inside. Why in the hell would I pay $$$ to go 2 miles deep in the ocean to see it on tv screen when I can do that from the surface??

I can buy a National Geographic for under ten bucks. And I’m completely safe.

Carbon fiber fails quickly under compression, shattering without warning.
Repeated cycles of pressure and cold will fatigue the carbon fiber, meaning even if it "works" once, it can't be repeated an infinite number of times.
How many cycles could this hull endure? It's unknown because that wasn't tested.
The carbon fiber hull was only 5 inches thick when some thought it should have been 7 inches thick.
They did not conduct non-destructive testing on the hull to look for voids or other manufacturing defects.

At the same time the sub lost communication the autonomous battery operated beacon also died.

Which is ridiculous. I can’t believe the CEO didn’t learn from the Apollo 1 mission and provide a hatch they could open from the inside.

This way would have to be much, much cheaper and given how that seems to have been a priority in other choices i imagine that drove the decision
