'Tis the Season - What are Some Worthy Charities to Support?

along with local charity work i do, i am trying to expand my horizons. i have 2 that you should all support, but i'm willing to listen to other suggestions.
i personally gave money yesterday to reason.com. The #1 mainstream media outlet for liberty and freedom. It's motto is "Free Minds and Free Markets", and it's a daily read/view that produces a lot of content and does a great job promoting the idea of individual freedom and smaller government (2 concepts that i adore).
F.I.R.E.
this organization is one that i plan on donating to for the first time. it's an organization that protects freedom of speech in higher education. this is becoming a major issue, especially with the totalitarian bullshite being proliferated post-Missouri (Yale just had an embarrassing incident yesterday)

The mission of FIRE is to defend and sustain individual rights at America’s colleges and universities. These rights include freedom of speech, legal equality, due process, religious liberty, and sanctity of conscience—the essential qualities of individual liberty and dignity. FIRE’s core mission is to protect the unprotected and to educate the public and communities of concerned Americans about the threats to these rights on our campuses and about the means to preserve them.

Giving to the less fortunate promotes laziness and poverty. Buy something nice for yourself or donate to a political campaign.

We made a donation to Wikipedia this week; not sure if that is considered a charity but they had a notice about needing donations and we use Wikipedia often.

I don't consider media organizations to be charities.

i do and it's a better charity than many direct-support ones b/c there is a pardox involved with giving to directly help people
giving to an organization that can help masses of people by fostering policies that promote freedom has, imho, a much better and bigger impact

that is actually a great idea
have the OT give candidates and develop a system to choose 1-2 and then set up accounts to fund the support in the name of the site
