If I ask for an upgrade, it's because I have the status to back it up and it wasn't offered to me. You don't get a tip for my loyalty.

I’ve never tipped for an upgrade but that’s about the only thing I’d consider tipping for just to check in.
When on vacation I've tipped the front desk for probably the last 30 years. I remember someone recommending it and I did it when checking into the Grand Wailea on Maui in 1996 when there after winning a company trip and the $20 tip got me an ocean view room on an upper floor, which was better than even some of company executives got. I've been doing it since and it pays off probably 90% of the time and some of the room upgrades have been tremendous.

This is why businesses are pushing this BS. We are being played.
Not that I don’t agree, because this is absolutely a truckload of BS, but it’s easy to not tip as well.

I never check in or out of a hotel and not feel ripped off.
A tip request at the point ain't gonna fly.

it used to be common in Las Vegas.
I used to go to Vegas a lot when I was young, I really lucked out and met the manager of what was at the time the Las Vegas Hilton(same building as the old International Hotel,) this was longer before the third party booking sites and you would actually call the hotel to make a reservation, I'd call her before coming out there and she would see me up with some incredible suites, I've stayed in Elvis' old suite a few times, dumbass young me never tipped her a dime

Here’s a tip for them……..how about not alienating guests/potential guests by charging them for showing up at your front desk.

What in the actual frick.
Again, we are headed to a two class system.
Many people will rely on those who have, to tip.

This is ridiculous. I am not tipping someone for checking me in. I did tip someone the other day for getting me a gift card, but it was before Christmas, and I felt like being nice.
