Let’s just say that 99% of the people that live there now have no idea who Bob Pettit or Alvin Dark were.

Ohhhhhhhhhh. That is why people say thats the Dark part of town. Duh. Makes sense now. I'm embarrassed to admit I thought it meant something else.

Dude, South Brightside View was the best in the late 80s early 90s. Had one those three bdrm places down by the end. Great parties. We had BR cops living back there and we never got messed with.

That area between Bob Petit,Tigerland Ave., Jim Taylor, and Nicholson could be a gold mine , if re-developed properly.

-Tigerland Acres apartments is owned by Alvin Earl of Brooklyn NY. He lives on 53rd st.

-Many of the other properties are owned by some company in Ellick.

-some of those 4 plex/8 plex things are owned by someone in Denham Springs.

A wealthy developer could by up all those properties and redevelop them into something that would represent the 22nd century and make it nicer.

I passed through in 20 or 21 and it was pretty bad during the day, can't imagine at night. Maybe I just picked the wrong day.

I lived there also in 87-89. Did you have the 3 bedrooms with circular stairs leading to a loft bedroom?

It was sketchy when I lived there in 1994. An apartment complex called Tiger Plaza. I had my car broken into (they shattered the window) and stole all my stereo equipment.

It was fun being able to walk to Fred's, Sport's, etc., but I'm assuming it probably hasn't gotten any safer in the last 30 years....

They renovated Tiger Plaza in the early 2000s. Moved into a fresh apartment, and my room mate blew out the plumbing in two brand new units filling up his water bed. That side was still safe, but cops loved to try to ticket you for open container for having a beer in the parking lot on the way to Sports. I miss Mohammed? next to the Dominos where we used to get our kegs.

I think I remember the place you are talking about. Yep, we would buy our beer there too. Didn't they have food too? I seem to have a very vague memory of some type of sandwiches or maybe even gyro sandwiches?? I was definitely drinking too much during the time I lived there, the memories are very fuzzy...

I only lived there my freshman year, but that was probably the craziest and most fun year of my life. So many stories...

In the 80's and maybe 90's, there were some low-income housing programs that had clauses in them that made it hard to transfer ownership. They also sometimes had silent partners who owned 99% of the complex as limited partners with some management company owning 1% as the general partner. So the 99% owners basically had no control over it and most of the times knew nothing about them. They were just in it for the tax breaks. The management company was happy getting their management fees and had no incentive or means to put any money into the properties. They were basically structured to stay "low-income" forever.

Well, we were probably neighbors. Loved that apartment and the area in general.

I wish I could remember my apartment number to see how close we were to each other.
