Another nasty condition you can get from a tick bite is AGS (alpha gal syndrome), an allergy to mammal meat.

I don't have a tick story. But leeches. Leeches I have had.

I think it was 4ish years ago I posted a picture on the OB of my daily driver with everything up to the door frame under water.

Took a few hours and a come along to get out.

What I didn't know what about 10 minutes in, two leeches had latched on to my left calf.

Get back to the house, start cleaning everything up and notice them, spray them off with the hose thinking they were leaves.

Standing around the shop cleaning up the come along, turn around to go hang it, turn back around amd there were bloody foot prints everywhere and what looked like a pint of blood on the ground at the work bench.

I had one on the head of dick when I was around 13. Hell if you turkey hunt you have tick stories. I had one I discovered in my belly button last year. I had not been in the woods for a week.

Looks like a nice place to canoe and float right?

Elk River in SW Missouri. Lots of Tulsans go there to camp and canoe and stuff. River is full of leeches in the calm still waters though.

Went with a bunch of people a couple times. After messing around swimming, we'd all look each over thoroughly leaving the water and usually half would have at least 1 leech on them. They turn loose real fast when touched with an ember from a campfire twig.

As far as personals being invaded by wild critters, my worst was chiggers/redbugs at Mom and Dads' place in Hot Springs Village. Tree's would cover their corner in leaves and getting out there to clean up the leaves, the redbugs would gather in the crotch area and party down. Wasn't until Dad died and Mom was selling the place that the termite inspector told us lots of residents spray their yards with bleach due to the redbugs.
