I'm sitting here thinking "damn what a gorgeous car". Then I realized that you parked right next to where I go for Wine Down in New Roads.
There's a diner/bar about a mile from there near Hospital Road that seems to have a lot of events for folks who appreciate classic cars.

C7 is my favorite modern corvette. Then they went and jumped on the Europeans dicks.
NEWSFLASH: If I wanted a European-styled mid-engine I’d purchase one of those.

That will be a fun car. Get the mechanical simplicity of a classic car with an engine just modern enough to be powerful and efficient and still relatively easy to work on with lots of parts availability.

a TKX 5-speed conversion .
Much to the purist's disdain, that is a great combo for that car, LS / TKX. When the time comes for my clutch replacement, the TKX swap is going to have serious consideration at the same time.

Also, is a C5 still best bang for buck for a performance car? 25-30 year old gm problems not withstanding.
Watch for good deals on C5's to dry up now that SCCA, NASA, and who knows who else has a new race series called Spec Corvette. It's based on the C5 and and to nobody's surprise, it's becoming quite popular.

Just curious as to why you think that?
Obtuse summed it up pretty well. The steering is meh at best. It has so much understeer that it always wants to push through the corner and the front end feels heavy. Rotating the car into a high speed turn can be pretty sketchy. Its a car that on paper should be able to induce oversteer easily, but it doesn't. You have to be down right violent with the car to get the rear end to come around and then it gets unpredictable. And the brakes are good when they're in the right window, but they fade quickly and overheat.
It's a car i really want to love but just can't get there.

I drive a ZL1 Camaro and it never fails to make me smile. It’s impractical as hell but fun to drive.
I've driven a ZL1 at COTA and it's a much better car than the C7 and even the C7 Z06 when you're abusing it. I enjoy the ZL1 more than the vette.
