That story said 80k people died of the flu in the US last year.
I am pretty sure that's way fricking off

The whole time I had it,I kept thinking how do older people actually survive this.Mine was that bad.

The fact people still think a working flu shot is possible is hilarious.

I see hundreds of flu patients each year and I have yet to get it.
And I’ve never received the influenza vaccine.

Do you think annual flu vaccines are beneficial, harmful, or make no difference?

Kids die of flu every month, every year. So why is it a metric of it being a bad year now?
Because it's 2019. Emotions >>>>>> facts, science, or reason.

I've avoided the shot in an attempt to contract the virus, because the sweet release of near death would be a nice break from the hell that is my job at the end of the year. Still nothing.

The flu shot decreases your relative risk of getting the flue from 2% to 1% which is a 50% decrease in relative risk.
But your chance of getting the flu only improves from 2 in 100 to 1 in 100, which is only a 1% decrease in absolute risk.
It isn’t worth the cost to healthcare.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
That's an incredible stat. I'd have to imagine the vast majority are old people.

No.
2018-2019
quote:
The 2018-2019 flu season has been a relatively mild one — and a pretty effective flu shot is part of the reason why.
Mid-season estimates suggest that the flu shot has reduced the risk of illness by around 47% in vaccinated people, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released Thursday. During the severe 2017-2018 flu season, vaccine efficacy was estimated at just 36%.
The difference is partly because the dominant influenza virus last year, H3N2, is known to cause more serious illnesses and to be less responsive to vaccination than other strains. This year, H1N1 — which is more easily targeted by the flu shot — has been circulating most widely, leading to less-severe and fewer illnesses overall. The CDC estimates that the flu shot reduced the risk of H1N1 infection by about 46% among adults, and about 62% among children ages six months to 17 years old.
That’s not worthless.

Yep. That flu year hit old people hard. Some years the strains inexplicably kill perfectly healthy 30-40 year olds at a higher rate. That year, it was cleaning out Heaven's waiting room.

Your chance of getting the flu is 2%.
Your chance of getting the flu if you have the flu shot is 1%.
This is a 50% reduction, but only a 1% reduction in relative risk.
I stand by my statement.

As usual, I will not be getting a flu shot. I will not be injecting my body with that poison.

I will of course be getting my flu shot this year.
1)I have to for work
2)I'm a responsible adult and don't wish to spread to flu to those that could be seriously harmed by it (such as senior citizens, babies, and those immunocompromised by other medical conditions).
3)I'm not an idiot

So millions of less people getting the flu and therefore not spreading it isn’t worth it to the healthcare system?
