some decent suggestions, some horrible ones

avoid Navy Pier - it's like a lame commercialized county fair. i don't see the appeal. Field Museum sux. the only museum worth visiting IMO is the Museum of Science and Industry. avoid Gino's East - prob the worst of the big chain deep dish. the best of the big chains is Lou's. Pequod's is better though. If you want thin, go to Piece.

and it's The L (not the L train) and you can get to both the White Sox and the Cubs on it.

sounds like telling someone if they don't walk on Bourbon they will get mugged. my goodness, what part of Mich Ave were you just off? the big shopping area is Streeterville and River North and Gold Coast, some of the safest areas in America. Tourist areas are pretty safe. The Red line can get a little suspect at night though.

If you're going to Chicago for the first time, I think the Navy Pier is just something you have to see, even if it is kinda lame.

This guy is known as one of the biggest trolls on the Food and Drink Board so take any of his food suggestions with a grain of salt.

The shed aquarium is really cool. I was about thirteen when I went too. Your kid would like it for sure.

The Hancock just unveiled a new Birds Eye View feature in the last couple of weeks. Window tilts foward and you can look down at the city.

There are tons of street festivals here every weekend in the summer, you can go online and see which ones will be occurring during yalls visit.

I work for a kayak company up here and you can rent out kayaks on the beach or the river. You can take an architectural tour down the river during the day and then at night on Wed. and Sat. you can go on a fireworks paddle. It is a 7 mi round trip but you get to see all of downtown from the river at night and you aren't rushed around like the boat tours. You can rent stand up paddle boards at one of our beach locations as well. Here is a link to our website [link=(www.kayakchicago.com/)]Kayak Chicago[/link]

Dude, he's taking his 13 year old kid, it's not some wine and dine experience...

Field Museum, Navy Pier, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, River tour.

Spend a day in Wrigleyville. Eat anywhere you please.

Have fun!
