We could have avoided all this back in the 50's. The Brits had a plan to cede all of North Korea's border region with China to them, while the UN stopped just north of a Pyongyang Wonsan line. Mac Arthur nixed it and the rest is history.

Unless the Chinese and US got involved, the war between the two Koreas wouldn't last but a year or two at the most. The North would get completely destroyed.

The south depends so much on the U.S.
Army size and equipment wise they are so very similar it is astonishing considering that North Korea can't even feed its population while SK has a larger economy.
No reason to hit the gym though when big brother has your back.
