KINGSTON, Jamaica — Despite saying he is not a superstitious person, Councillor for the Morant Bay Division in St Thomas, Rohan Bryan, feels “duppies” have been following him since his visit to the dilapidated building in the parish, where skulls were discovered during a demolition exercise on Sunday.
Up to publication time, Bryan confirmed that the skull tally climbed to five after officers found another skull on Monday and two more on Tuesday.
The skulls, which police say are human remains, were found in an old building across from the Morant Bay Police Station. One of the two skulls initially found, was discovered in an old casket.
“I’ve never seen anything like this. This is so weird,” the councillor told OBSERVER ONLINE on Tuesday.
“I’m not a believer in ghosts and all dem duppy story sumn deh but bwoy mi feel like some a dem follow mi go up a mi house though. Every time I talk people laugh…but some duppy come a mi yard yesterday. They were on my lawn, cause mi have a big lawn and mi sure mi see bout three of them pon mi lawn.
Describing the ghosts as children who were playing in his yard, Bryan continued: “I could hear like — mi nuh if a mi mind a play trick pon mi but I could almost hear him a seh ‘thank you’ and mi nuh know, one of them like, mi a try mek out the name or something like that.”
The St Thomas location remains heavy with tension and anxiety.
“Some of the guys up there, I think they’re a little scared with all the duppy stories,” he said.
Noting that there are several theories, beliefs and conspiracies surrounding the Lodge, Bryan said it was not his place to comment on it.
“Mi never join the Lodge and I’ve never been to one of dem meetings,” he said.
The councillor said he has revisited the location several times since Sunday.
He noted that the upstairs of the building is now completely demolished. The lower level, however, still remains. He said the structure also has a basement.
The building, which has been there since the 16th century, was being demolished by the Parish Council because of its condition.
The police are still combing the scene.

Being that I don't have a clue what a duppy is, I'm filing this one under "I don't have time for that shite".

Where's the Duppy Conqueror when you need him?

Context clues, baw. A duppy is a ghost, which they disturbed by uncovering possible shennanigans at an old lodge building being torn down.

I’ll be visiting Jamaica the first week of June. Hope I don’t run into any of these duppies.
