The problem with DUI's today is there's no regard for actual life safety, and every regard for weekend fundraising operations. In my experience local sheriffs like going after folks who had two beers on a Saturday night, and then claiming they are hazards to public safety. The ability to pay also raises the likelihood of arrest.

This is the beauty of technology, you don't have to drive, you have many options.

stand by 1 strike. I understand what you’re saying, but if after 1 strike you lose driving privileges forever,

We would need to come up with a better way to prove guilt. The ability to never drive again shouldn’t come down to a rookie cop asking you to perform tricks on side of the highway.

When my friend got one, there was a couple of questions about the stop. Our local DA does not negotiate DWI’s, so friend was thinking about taking it to jury trial. His attorney told him hell no because there are a lot of people out there that are extremists when it comes to DWI’s. Threads like this highlight that point.

As is typical with many misdemeanors, DUI's have been infected by a money grab.
