Yes, the problem is there are too many consequences. How stupid are you?

I know a teacher who was told by the admin that no one will fail in his class. A kid had a 12 average in a 100 point system. The kid’s parents were told that the kid could do some “extra” work 2 days before graduation and he was allowed to graduate. Sad, sad, sad…..

I mean he can still punish his kid and withhold shite. If you see the zeros you take away his phone, Xbox etc. I understand the 0s eventually get replaced but I’d tell my kid if I see any more than one zero for an assignment across your classes your phone or game console is gone for a week. Then next week comes and there are no 0s he gets it back. If it’s still there or there are 0s for other assignments you go without for another week.
You're assuming all of this isn't done or hasn't been tried. Spoiler alert: this is part of what we do. Nothing we do solves the problem long term but he is an otherwise polite and respectful kid, most of the time. Everybody raves about his manners. So while we do have consistent consequences for this issue, there are many things about him worthy of reward too so it's difficult to be super hard on him, especially when he comes home with A's and B's every quarter.
Just to add nuance, there are plenty of times when the teacher makes a mistake and just hasn't posted the grade but it looks like a zero. It's a very fun experience.

They're showing up to college expecting the same treatment, then get pissed and claim we're assholes when they find out that shite doesn't play here.
The K12 industry is just assing around nowadays. No idea what end(s) they're trying to achieve, other than to continue drawing a check. The students' best interests certainly aren't anywhere near the top of their list.

Again, you can only do that so many times and the school is making you burn one for dumb reasons.
I keep telling him that I'm way nicer about his laziness than his boss is going to be when he has to get a job to pay for his car insurance. He will learn one way or the other.

Last I checked it was pretty much always like this.
Are you 17 years old?

there are NO consequences i
People do not fear the consequences, and those responsible for correction fear dealing the consequences.

I moved to Louisiana from another state in the 70's. Had a spelling bee in elementary school. Just a classroom bee. The word was flow. So I spelled it correctly. The teacher said I was out. I said that's how you spell "flow". She pointed at the floor and said flow, flow. So as a smartass I said, oh, you mean "floor". And of to the principal's office I went.
Following year, mom put me in a magnet school. Instead of not having to deal with basic enucication, I leaned French and anatomy in
fifth grade.
