Maybe the most interesting point of this entire virus event, is the lack of give-a-frick for the elderly. Even those folks that downplay this virus as muh flu, acknowledge that it kills the elderly at a high rate. frick the old folks, I wanna live muh life!
True. The youngsters who hate old folks are suddenly incredibly compassionate about them. Weird.

We should have shut things down back then. We’re honestly lucky it wasn’t worse than it was. We learned from that.
We shut down events now because there is no vaccine. With the flu, enough people get vaccinated to slow it’s progress and prevent pandemic. When there is no vaccine, social distance becomes the vaccine. It’s the only way to slow it.
Without these actions, it might just fizzle out. Or it might not. It’s Russian roulette. But we owe it to the vulnerable population to do what we can to minimize its impact.

We didn’t have a vaccine for swine until the next year.

Why is Italy our measuring stick when it’s the only country seeing these issues?
Iran is 3rd world compared to US, so it's a poor example.
China, well I don't trust a damn thing coming out of China. Simple, you shouldn't either.
South Korea is the upside play IMO. Between them and Italy, we can get a gauge on what will happen here. South Korea did something we haven't. They tested early and often, and went to extreme measure to limit social gatherings.
Other countries... Too early to tell, most are in the early stages of exposure similar to us.
Plus, why not expect/plan for the worse case scenario that is currently viable? Underestimating and planning around best case scenario is...DUMB.

Testing early and often by SK has given us a really good indicator of the fatality rate. Almost no one healthy under 50 is dying. There was just a study posted in the big thread with over 4K cases in SK. 22 dead, 20 of which were over 50.
Finally, the worst case scenario involves the second oldest population in the world and a third of our ICU capacity per 100,000 people. That’s not what you’d call a “measuring stick.”
ETA: That’s a 0.5% fatality rate almost solely because of old people who had healthy issues already getting sick. The typical flu is anywhere from 0.1% to 0.2%. So it’s 3 to 5 times as deadly as the flu... overall. It’s actually only more deadly for the sick old people. It’s actually less deadly for younger people.

H1N1 was worse because it impacted and killed young people where Covid doesn't do that.
Biggest differences in then and now is in 2009 we had a Democrat President the media wasn't trying to destroy and twitter didn't run our lives yet.

Read my last post. Much of it is based on data out of South Korea which tested a ton of people early and continue to do so. Their one of the few countries actually testing anyone showing any symptoms and even those not showing any. Countries like Italy are only testing those showing critical symptoms and simply telling everyone else to stay home. Those people aren’t being tested.

You'll find out soon COVID-19 doesn't play politics.

Did you just bury a couple of freight containers or do all new construction

I say let the idiots who think a global pandemic is somehow an attack on Trump continue to act as nothing is happening and assemble all they want. Then mother nature can take care of the rest and humankind will be much better off.

I posted the study. Over 50 isn’t old. And it didn’t say anything about preexisitng health conditions. You obviously didn’t read it because you keep mis quoting it.

I'm gonna stop you right there. Fake news. There are probably tens of thousands of Americans currently infected with the virus who will never know they had it. That means the mortality rate is likely much lower.
Lol. So those people miraculously arent going to infect anyone else?
Let's get rid of the CDC and WHO, we got the OT, baby!

Obama was President. Media would protect him even if he did nothing.
