This simply, as a whole, isn't a "term".

The definition of term is a word or phrase, so actually it is.
ETA: Stone cold fact gets downvoted. Classic OT group think.

What do you do for a living, out of curiosity?

This is the pettiest argument ever
And LL, I hate to agree with lnch, but some of your views regarding women in stem seem a little outdated.

Nice, the whole definition is
quote:
a word or phrase used to describe a thing or to express a concept, especially in a particular kind of language or branch of study.

Good, so you agree that what I asked about is a term. Thanks for coming around.

I'm dumbfounded.
All of this:

Is not a "term". By definition. It is not a word or phase used to describe a concept. It's not an abridged or shortcut to describe a concept. What you quoted is not just a word or phase but the entire thought pattern.

This is the most pathetic semantics argument I've seen here. ETA: I'll go back and edit it to phrase so you and Mingo can stop melting over the most mundane of details.

Why? Because you're wrong?

No, it's just the English language.

I would contend if anyone is melting that would be you. If you are going to perpetually call people stupid and point out every small mistake or grammatical error on an online message board you have to be open to the same scrutiny, no? And in this case it was kind of important to your argument.

Take away gender then. I always manage to cloud my point by offering an example and people harping on the example that wasn't the point. So ignore it.
There's still a significant enough % of the human population in general who aren't going to excel in STEM or be a doctor. Then what? Everyone should just tell their kids, "Sorry, you're on your own because you aren't good at math/science"?
I entirely understand there being a limit. I get not funding something extremely unrealistic. I get not funding a low-effort kid. College isn't for everyone. But man. There are plenty of kids who are good in other areas.. who go to college for writing or marketing or whatever.. and end up landing themselves a really nice career using those skills and the networking they did during college.
Had my parents refused to pay for my college unless I went for something I wasn't good at, I wouldn't have gone at all and I'd either be serving you all beer at the bar or I'd be wasting away in a shite office answering phones for $30K.

Yep, this right here is grade A Mingo melt.

The most pathetic thing is we're this true, and it's not by the way, you care. I can't even begin to imagine taking an anonymous online forum so seriously.
