I've been speaking to treatment center patients for years. 10 years ago about 40% were in there for opiates/heroin. the last class i spoke to, 24 of 26 were there because of opiates. 1 due to meth and 1 for alcohol. it's a huge problem

While those opiate ratios are higher than my experience with treatment centers, you're very much right about opiates being the main drug of choice. If I had to put numbers to my observations, I'd say about 75% opiates, 10% meth, 10% alcohol and benzos, 5% cocaine/crack.

Hell the healthcare system in most cases just moves them on to something even more addictive to try and solve the problem...methadone.

Methadone is more addictive and harder to withdraw from than heroin and our tax dollars pay for it.

people try and put everything in a neat little box and it doesn't work that way.

Some drugs people can be on regularly and function better than others. Some drugs have a longer half-life so the withdrawals may be a bit prolonged but that doesn't exactly mean they are 'harder to withdrawal on'... if someone is deep in a heroin addiction, getting on a quick taper of methadone, to a quick taper of subutex, to maybe Ativan or Valium or klonopin and then maybe to 300mg of gabapentin.... all in a 3-4 month period coupled with actual meetings and mental therapy and a need to want to be sober.

We've effectively removed natural things that thinned the herd. This is just the universes attempt at equilibrium

Weed is the bread and butter that funds their hard drug operations. Legalization of weed would be a huge blow to their overall business model.

Not sure where you heard this but it's not true. Cocaine and heroin are where cartels make their money. Let me see if I can find the link to this study, but marijuana is estimated to be 15-17% of cartel profits
