That's exactly it. So many drivers around the city looking for an extra buck. Gonna be amazing.

Yeah, all 4 of the drivers I have had were guys in probably late 40's, all said they were just looking for some extra money on nights and weekends.

He also said (not sure how true) but they roughly only have about 50 so drivers now, but said once school starts and into the fall they are expecting around 200+ so drivers should be whenever and where ever.

I've used Uber in 4 major cities so far and it has been great every time.
Cabs are the worst.

I think this is going to be good for you dickjones... Obviously yellow cab had too many calls in cause it takes an hour most of the time to get a cab, so now you won't have to deal with that. I have a feeling yellow cab will only pick people up when they are waiting outside of an establishment and someone decides they want to leave then. Just go to 3rd or tigerland and wait and you will get people, but noone's gonna wait an hour for a yellow anymore.

Funny thing is just about all on here would never drive for uber or yellow cab. So they are dicussing points they now nothing about. I noticed that everyone who says they cant get cab are always standing downtown or outside of bar in tigerland. What times was these oh wait it was 2 a.m. when everyone else needs cab.

If cabs are so much better why are y'all so scared of Uber? Let the market decide.

Do you have a plan for when you get laid off/need to take a second job to make ends meet?

You should start putting together a plan now. I'm telling you this as sincere advice because yellow cab won't be around much longer. Layoffs will likely start within 12 months. Please prepare yourself and your family.

i've had situations in which i was told it would be 45 mins to an hour to get a cab to pick me up from a hotel or my apt. so it isn't just TL and downtown

So you noticed that a peak time of everyone wanting cabs is around 2am on weekend, yet yellow cab still only has 3 cabs running around town at that time? Make sense.

You're correct, nobody wants to work for them, we just want reliable transportation, which cabs are NOT.

I normally want a cab around midnight. I don't think everyone waits till 2. I wouldn't expect one then... But I bet I could get an UBER at 2.

So you are saying that Uber will fill this need and help expedite requests from people that want to get home quickly and safely from a night out?

1. We are speaking from a consumer's standpoint. We don't care about it from a drivers standpoint.

2. I would drive for Uber if I was in town more. I have a good friend who is driving. It would be fun IMO to do once a week or so. I wouldn't drive for yellow cab.

One of my drivers this weekend in Boston said he used to drive for the cab company but quit to work for Uber. He said that he works on his own schedule, gets paid better and is able to spend more time with his family.

FWIW, i believe this is a big part of it

BR doesn't have much of a demand for cabs except for the times that people go out

how can BR justify operating a much larger cab service if the demand just isnt there except for a couple of hours a day, a few days per week

i'm just trying to look at it from the other side of the coin

No the funny thing is most people never will use either but will still bitch and say how bad one sucks and how great the other one is...not based on their experiences but what they have read on this board.
