i guess someone could take a cab now for nostalgic reasons.
The only cab i have ever been in that wasn't two decades old was when i was in tampa. every yellow cab in br is disgusting looking, they are actually doing a favor by not showing up on time to pick up passengers.

I think you are overstating that.

I don't think I am overstating it at all. I walked from TigerLand to LSU several times in my day.
Hell, I walked from downtown to Burbank before in the time it took to wait for a taxi. Everyone I know in BR that regularly goes out is excited about it.
It is going to make going out easier and get drunks off the road. Should help the downtown bar scene too.

That would be great but it won't have that big of an effect.

as far as the CC issue. We all have them and are to never refuse a CC if the driver does then call office right away and your ride is free.

One of my drivers this weekend in Boston said he used to drive for the cab company but quit to work for Uber. He said that he works on his own schedule, gets paid better and is able to spend more time with his family.
Heard this same story a few times in Nashville.
Also, a lot of grad students trying to pay their way through college. Always the nicest folks.

It will have a pretty decent size effect. LSU students that want to go to downtown will have a pretty cheap ride. They will likely choose uber vs driving. Other parts of town probably still cost a bit but I know once uber gets up and going I wont have any problem taking uber home from a bar. The only time ill probably drive drunk from now on is after football games.

What an amazing thread. I like how he has to show how little they actually make, as if they couldn't figure that out on their own. Let the people decide if it's valuable or not!
Taxis are useful in big, densely populated cities. You walk outside and boom, get a taxi. For places like BR or lafayette that are smaller and spread out, uber seems more convenient.
And I bet you don't get bitched at when you can't tell Big Momma on the other line the address to Fred's in tigerland

Went downtown for the first time in probably 8 months because we used Uber.

BRPD is going to have to find a new cash cow. Inspection sticker checkpoints will be the norm... In South Baton Rouge.... Oh wait.

Great for the people that don't need to be regular customers, like 99% of the population.
but but but we all need taxis...it is a life or death situation yet 99% of the public rarely if ever uses them?
