The system is broken...

I will apologize in advance for the long post, I just had to get this off my chest.
The hardest thing I have ever had to go through as a man was watching the hurt my wife went through when we were told we could not have children of our own. never mind my own hurt that I was also going through.
After praying about it we, we felt lead to become foster parents in the hopes to adopt. God blessed us with two beautiful children who we adopted this past October.
We have since taken another placement, a 15 day old baby boy who was on a morphine drip for 9 days because he was born exposed to: Meth, Heroine, other opioids and "club/ designer drugs." after the dust settled DCFS determined that there were no family members or friends who could pass a back ground check to take the baby. The parents wanted the baby to go to her brother but he had a criminal record and him and his GF worked two different schedules, one was nights and the other was days and the parents lived with them as well witch is a big no no. They were deemed unfit to have a new born baby.
fast forward two months and the parents where just arrested for their 14th and 12th time in the last 4 years for schedule 1 and 2 narcotics and other drug paraphernalia. The dad, we found out, had also served 10 years for armed robbery. The case worker informed us that at the 6 month mark they would change the goal from reunification to adoption and that the agency wanted us to adopt the baby and of course we were ecstatic.
Yesterday was the answer hearing and we were told by DCFS that we didnt have to go because all that was going to happen was the judge would ask them if they agreed or disagreed on the charges presented on why they lost their child.
We got the blindsiding call at 4:31 yesterday evening that the the parents asked the judge to give 100% custody to her brother and his GF, who has a criminal record and who deemed unfit by DCFS.
The judge granted it with no questions asked. she didnt ask about the brothers past history or anything. DCFS fought it until the court closed down for the day but the judge wouldn't hear it. The Judge is Blair Edwards and I would imagine since it is Amite Louisiana, she has some connection to the Democrat Edwards who is our governor.
we have talked to several case workers and other members of DCFS and they have never heard of this happening and we also heard that the judge is a loose cannon and does what she wants.
The blindsiding hurt we went through yesterday was debilitating. We know that we have a chance to possibly get another baby in the future but in foster care everyone wants a baby. Not being able to have our own bio children and finally having a baby that we brought home from the hospital, this felt like the closest we will ever be to experiencing bringing our own home.
Any OT lawyers have any advice on what we could possibly do next? We couldn't even get the baby's lawyer to call or text us back and DCFS is completely off the case now via the judge.

That fricking sucks bro. I personally know 3 adopted people in my family and I am a huge proponent of the practice.
I'll be praying for yall to get that baby back and give him a good loving childhood and a chance to be a fine adult.

So sorry man.My brother and his wife adopted a girl under similar circumstances. Every now and then the birth mother, who is a complete shite bag, tries a cause problems but she can’t get out of her own way. Hope things work out for you.

It takes a special person to adopt children and I envy you and your wife for that. You are twice the man I am. God will bless you and your wife for the work y’all are doing.

such bullshite.. actual parents wanting to do good for a child and give it hope, yet an idiot judge throws it into a lose/lose situation. I hope you get this child back. Please update

Do you have the baby in your home? If so, do everything you can to never give him up. Fight it legally until you can no longer. This boy will has no chance living with the scumbags this judge just sentenced him to live with.

We cant afford the 20-30K it cost to private adopt. Going through the state is our only option.

Seriously. OP may have avoided a family tree DNA nightmare. Just adopt an aborted fetus candidate. They're a dime a dozen.

Man that is absolutely terrible. That kid will have no chance in life growing up in that situation

Hate this type of event occurs. The long range outlook for the infant is, simply, not good. I wish you good luck in getting this straightened out. Regardless of this particular outcome, don't give up.
