Ok I thought I remembered him, but looked it up to be sure. He was captain of the most famous confederate blockade runner the USS Alabama among other things, he was also a lawyer in Mobile and a professor at LSU.
The statue needs to be put back up, move it to Springhill no one will care here, or give it to the town of Semmes that is named after him 10 miles away.

Mayor Simpson went to UMS which was a Military school K-12 in Mobile Back in the day. So everyone was in the military and marching and stuff. He was 9 years ahead of me. I was in 3rd and the Seniors were the platoon leaders. Didn't realize he was such a pussy.

Wish someone with money would rescue the Confederate statues and memorials and open a Museum of the Confederacy.

Regardless of what you think about the Civil
War or the men who fought, many of those statues are true works of art.

I like Sandy a lot, but he does whatever business leaders want now. If they thought it was bad for business somehow then it’s gone.

Good book on him by Stephen Fox. Was the only sub the rebels were able to get their hands on. Made by the British. The fact he was able to do what he did is amazing.

He had something to do with subs too? I think about Farragut every time I come back from fishing. I grew up hating him like any good Southern boy, but when are in a boat between those two forts, you can’t help but think about that situation, and “damn the torpedoes full speed ahead.” (It was actually heavily mined and protected by a few ironclads in addition to the forts.)

I never understood all the hatred toward Lee, he was a great man and had no interest in slavery and if Virginia doesn’t succeed, he is the commander of the Northern forces and war is over in 6 months. Meanwhile Sherman was horrible racist.

When I lived in Germany I never once saw a statue of a Nazi, never saw a street or school named after one either.

Thats why I laugh at baws who live in the deep south that were mad about disrespect of the American Flag, but have zero opposition to the treasonous confederate flag.

Yeah Semmes was running the CSS Alabama. Was a british built steam powered sub. Wrecked a ton of union shipping.
