And the products were quality. I ordered replacement carpet for my truck and it was very nice.

Bought a Dukes of Hazzaed horn from them.

my friend and i had a gun stuck in our face for playing this "too loudly".

turned out to be a starter pistol. But, at night, it looked real enough.

cops were called, they said since it wasn't a real gun, no big deal.

My brother had a "sweet" pair of 12"s from JC Whitney in his Ford Grenada boxed in raw MDF.
Buddy of mine had a Grenada. That thing was a tank. Probably averaged 5MPG, but it was a sweet ride, sitting low, smoking Winston Reds. Good times.

They were great along with department store catalogs. Great big wish lists.

Advance wasn’t around. The internet wasn’t around. If you wanted unusual parts for your ride as a young person you had to mail a check or money order.

We had Western Auto baw. They carried everything from boat motors to shotguns.

The JC Whitney catalog was full of almost nothing but overpriced junk. The Summit Racing catalog had the good stuff. Some people here remember ordering things COD. in high school I didn't have a credit card and so I paid the UPS driver with cash for my parts.

Those were fun. Kind of like the ads in old comic books.

I was that way with Crutchfield. Saved up 4 months to buy a Pioneer SuperTuner III w/ cassette from them back in 1983. Made Zebra sound like you were in front of the stage at the Purple Peacock.

My Father was a 50’s Hot Rod builder and I did it in the 80’s. Dad would make references to using that catalog when he was my age at the time. It’s iconic with gear heads.

You had a car then. No place for carpet in a truck in the 80s.

It was fun going through the catalog, no matter what vehicle i owned.

I still like catalogs. I still get Jeep related ones such as 4Wheel Parts, Quadratec and ExtremeTerrain Some older Jeepers may remember Leon Rosser Jeep's catalog. I built my 80 CJ7 from that catalog and had a direct dial to one of the customer assistance ladies - "Peggy" IIRC.

Good memories

I just bought the same amount of red cloth shop towels for a little cheaper last week. That is actually kind of impressive considering inflation since then. And by the way I loved flipping thru that magazine.

As a senior in college I got an '83 Mustang GLX convertible. (The GLX had the 5.0/5-speed like the GT but without the stripes and fake hood scoop.)

Anyway, I got a horn from J.C.Whitney that played "Dixie," "La Cucaracha," and, when the time was right, "I'm In The Mood For Love."

Not mine but just like it.
