Think of how many kids are seeing these videos? How many are laying in bed at night watching a girl get stabbed in the neck? A conservative spokesperson being shot? War footage? Radicalized talking points?
Think of their worldview.
When I was 13, I was watching Little Giants and playing MarioKart with my buds while eating dominoes and drinking surge.
You didn't experience the early era of the Internet, where one could freely watch beheadings of people, or pain Olympics? Motherless? Rotten.com?

I'm old enough to remember life right before video games and PCs became part of everyone's everyday life.
I understand the urge to go outside and "do something". This modern social media environment has created such a state of cognitive dissonance, it's a wonder we don't have more problems.
These modern "hippies" wake up in their 3000 square foot homes in solidly middle class neighborhoods. Throw on their $60 hoodie, grab a $8 coffee and then get on their $1000 phone and bitch about capitalism, the patriarchy, systemic racism and homophobia. Their brains cannot reconcile that they're living the best life possible throughout all of history, but are told how terrible things are.

You see it regularly on the Political Talk board :). Or on political threads.
It’s not really their beliefs it’s someone else”s beliefs painted crudely over their brain.

So true... Taking a look at the Poli board on a football focused forum and realize that is tame compared to hyper focused political boards. It's no wonder people go insane if they truly believe all the garbage posted on them

lets not act like kids int he 90s were not watching a ton of gore and crazy shite online.
For sure in some cases. I’d say most weren’t actually being exposed to it. Think of how kids who spent time on the Internet or played a lot of videogames were portrayed. Nerds. Dorks. The cultural milieu was certainly not assembling around disturbing, polarizing, or damaging content that was easily accessible by anyone of any age group.
We rented Faces of Death when we spent the night at my friend’s house who had parents that didn’t pay attention. Watched porn there too.
But it was an extra experience. It wasn’t a daily, normal part of life. Additionally, and more importantly, the 90s were kid friendly. Just the feel of it. Politics were in the beginning throes of being hotly polarized. Pop music and what was on TV still had a lot of moral structures and those that did push the boundaries (Madonna for example) were portrayed and controversial, moral deviants. Now “Wet arse Pussy” is thrown at the youth as women’s empowerment and normative cultural behavior.
I don’t deny that the 90s didn’t have their own share of problems, but we’re in an entirely different era with technology that is royally fricking the childhood experience.

Internet addiction enables dehumanization of others. Sad stuff.
