I only knew 1. He was a next door neighbor before going into the Navy. I can't say I knew him very well. He may have been a frogman before the SEAL teams were started. He was personable enough but stayed to himself after retirement.
More recently I had a neighbor that was a USMC sniper. He served with Lon Tran (for those of you that keep up with this stuff). USMC shooting teams too.
And right now I have a neighbor that was Army Recon. He is a nice guy but I don't talk to him much due to 2 bigassed dogs. He is of native indian decent and has a sweat lodge in his backyard.

FWIW, they don't all use a p226 and a razor
I really have no idea what they use. The phone salesman said my Samsung is what they use. It looked tough so I got it. The Sig story was more believable but I got it because it was a bit different from the standard P226. I have a Beretta too plus a lot of other stuff that the military uses. I learned how tough military stuff was before I went into the Army. I don't buy something to be a poser. I buy based on durability. Mil spec stuff is sometimes crude but almost always tough.
I ran over my phone with my tractor. No effect on it.

I know three.
I graduated with two of them (Central) around the turn of the century. The third was 2 years younger than me and the little brother of one of the other two I know.
The first one enlisted shortly after we graduated and made it to a team pre 9/11. He stayed in for around (8) years and spent the better part of his early career deployed. He got out, but ended up going back within a year. When he left he told us he was going to some elite team with the Seals, which I now firmly believe was ST 6.
Like every other Seal I have read about, he is an extemely humble guy. Very athletic, never knew the word quit.
The other two enlisted after they finished at SLU around '06. One of them got rolled back due to injuries in BUDS, but ultimately made it through.

If you're wondering what the D-boys have been up to while the SEALS have been getting all the publicity, they've been minding their own business getting their hair cut LINK
quote:
WASHINGTON — A United States Special Operations commando and a Central Intelligence Agency officer in Yemen shot and killed two armed Yemeni civilians who tried to kidnap them while the Americans were in a barbershop in the country’s capital two weeks ago, American officials said on Friday.
The two Americans, attached to the United States Embassy, were whisked out of the volatile Middle East nation within a few days of the shooting, with the blessing of the Yemeni government, American officials said.
quote:
American officials refused to identify the Americans or their jobs in Yemen, where the Pentagon and the C.I.A. have been training Yemeni security forces in addition to carrying out the drone strikes. But a senior American official said one individual involved in the shooting was a lieutenant colonel with the elite Joint Special Operations Command and the other was a C.I.A. officer.

I knew a bunch of guys in sbu-22 when I used to work out at stennis. I know a posters son is in that group. Met a few seals when they would come in for training. Nobody ever really talked about anything just shot the shite over a steak and beer.

My Great Uncle was a member of the Howling Commandos, and his brother's grandson is a Treadstone operative.

My oldest half brother is about to have his commencement from the Naval Academy and has been accepted to BUDS. Here's hoping he won't ring the bell.

Good luck to him, hopefully he won't be a winter class (although that water is ALWAYS cold).
