Breathtaking views of Super Typhoon Sinlaku seen yesterday and today from the JPSS weather satellites, capturing the very impressive eye at the center of the storm.

My though would be, the island is gonna go under water
You should realize that this is a volcanic island and much of the improvements are high and dry. Most will just close their storm shutters and wait while the storm passes. Hopefully, they have stock piled water and durable food with a method of cooking the food, because they will lose power for a while.
The buildings along the beaches are mostly restaurants, shops and hotels which are along the relatively protected Tumon Bay area.

I spent some time there and saw a smaller storm, so I am familiar with the situation.

Saipan is more vulnerable in position and infrastructure. They have my greater concern.

Update - an old friend on Guam says that she is fine and looking forward to a couple extra days off. Typcal attitude for Guam residents. Hafa Adai...

Conditions in Saipan are going downhill fast...

It's interesting that the airport is still reporting with winds gusting well over hurricane force, but for most hurricanes in the US, we lose power with the first 60 to 70 mph gust.

Direct hit on Saipan and Tinian

Barometer stopped reporting at 941.9 millibars several hours ago.

Wind gusts as high as 130 mph were measured but some data is missing.

Back half of typhoon is just now ramping up.

Link to data that is surprisingly still updating every few minutes
