I learned from my last GF to my current one that PMS is more personal and psychological than biological.

Me ex could lose it at the drop of a hat during that time of the month. I could always tell when it was near. Wild mood swings were the norm. But she tended to be a more negative and erratic person overall.

My current GF, if it weren't for sex I would never know. She doesn't change much except for occasional cramps. She's also a much happier person overall.

negative mood doesn’t....

Just the use of the term "negative" is such a broad generalization that it discredits this study as far as I am concerned.

Hormone fluctuations happen more so in women than in men due to the menstrual cycle... It effects the mood... whether is positive or negative is a subjective term...

But now I'm being told to forget all that because PMS is, for most women, little more than a minor inconvenience, and that men and women are, by and large, not very different from one another. So which one is it?

It depends on the situation. If you're a woman that's lucky enough to not have to deal with a condition like endometriosis, PCOS, uterine fibroids, etc. then there's probably a good chance that your symptoms have been exaggerated from time to time.

If you're not, that time can be absolutely miserable. And when you consider roughly 11% of women between 15 and 44 have endometriosis, 5-10% of women in childbearing age have PCOS (so about 5 million), and so on that's a decent amount of women dealing with legitimate "PMS" issues. And those are just women who have been accurately diagnosed (endometriosis diagnosis can't "officially" come until surgery is done to confirm).

God bless the medical advancements of laparoscopic surgery and extended cycle birth control.

I puke my guts out and have horrible back pain and sometimes migraines and I'm really emotional.

So...

I just skip that week. It has made my life so much easier.

Does that count as a girl coming in here and perioding all over the thread?

I get migraines and debilitating cramps.

It's probably just psychosomatic, though

Well considering we're talking about mood, not physical symptoms, yes if you're a bitch then you're probably a bitch most of the time anyway.

Actually, it's probably something else. Whether it be too much hormone fluctuation or an underlying issue. You should never settle for "debilitating".

PMS was fabricated to give women an out for being sluts/bitches.

So they’re just bitchy without any medical reason. That’s not better.

I sympathize with women who are PMSing. In the 80's, I was taking a high dosage of Prednisone. Higher doses of it made me so irritable that people would ask if I had increased my intake of it. I even got real emotional during meetings at work.
I got teary watching AT&T Reach Out And Touch Someone Commercials too.

Seriously my wife doesn't get mean. But she does cramp a lot and is in serious pain.
That bothers me greatly.

I find it is best to kick that bitch to the guest room if I'm with her while she is having an episode.

I think some women just have more issues with it than others.
