This.

Don't let the commercials fool you.

Yea there are a TON of bullshite cases that get settled for a mid to low five figure amount that easier to just pay versus having the expense of a trial etc.

But the people who wind up with hundreds of thousands of dollars usually: A. Don't see even a third of that amount in their pocket after it's all said and done and B. they are usually fricked up pretty bad.

Give me fully functioning limbs and an intact spine any day over a 500,000 judgment/settlement (BEFORE attorney's fees and medicals repaid).

Exactly and I understand that. But it seems like a testimony of maybe... "Morris Bart got my doctor expenses paid for" without specifying a huge dollar amount would get the message across without desperate people only seeing the number in the commercials and thinking "Damn, I gotta get myself injured somehow".

Most of these large PI firms are paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to employ the best advertising firms. Those advertising firms are going to do whatever it takes to maximize their clients exposure. It’s their job to do this so as long as it’s legal the advertising firms have no reason not to advertise in the most effective way for their clients.

Lawyers still get a percentage

50% plus expenses if they go to trial is what many contracts specify.

Where?

I’ve never seen a 50% contingency fee agreement.

Typically it’s 33% before trial and 40% if it goes to trial.

...and more importantly, for those fortunate enough to be hit/tapped by someone with high coverage limits.

Most I've seen or discussed with people have been 33 1/3 for handling and settling, 40% for filing suit and settling and then 50% for trial/appeal, all plus expenses.

This. One of my selling points to clients to settle a case with less-than-severe injuries is “you don’t want a good personal injury case.”
